It came as a short announcement that packs a big punch for Tyrone residents. Judy Jefferson at the Thursday town council meeting told the audience that Home Depot agreed to a $5,000 grant to help restore the picnic area at Shamrock Park on Senoia Road.

Residents in the audience responded to the announcement with applause. Jefferson said the successful grant application to the home improvement company will be followed by a similar request to Wal-mart.

The council voted to accept the Home Depot grant.

A rendering of the proposed restoration project will be available later for viewing at the library.
