FOOD COST

Its getting there! I saw some tomatoes today for $5 a pound (them what has stems protruding.)
Two handfuls of green beans about $3.
Cherries about $4 a pound with seeds.
Orange juice $3.
Vidalias at about $35 a bushel if they were sold that way.
Georgia peaches (green) at $1, but good ones at $3 from CA.
Bread at about $3 for a small loaf.
Sliced deli meat at about $9, and cheese at $8 per pound.
Good steak at $12 per pound unless about to expire. That is about $10,000 per cow.
(Well, maybe $8000---some meat is cheaper.
Bananas are approximately twice the cost last year and not very good. Didn't know they were made out of oil.
Coffee is $7-10 per 12 ounces---I mix it with hay barn scrapings at $2 per pound.
Restaurants can't charge double for plates of food since last year so many are quitting or serving practically nothing for $19 lunch and $16 for supper. No steak unless $28. Wonder what Chops and Bones gets nowadays?

off Ponce de Leon in Atlanta (Decatur) is still the best place around for great prices on fresh produce.

(Organic strawberries were only $2.50/box, the best price I've seen yet)

Also the best place for coffee, wine, and fresh seafood.

have you tried the Super H Mart up Hwy. 85 in Riverdale? Great fruits and veggies, plus some hard to find Asian produce. It's a lot closer, very well priced, very fresh stuff and closer to home so you're not burning up the gas so much. I love the Dekalb Farmer's Market but once you get past the smell, which I personally don't mind all that much, the H Mart is a great alternative. By the way, does anyone know when and if the Georgia Farmer's Market in Forest Park is ever going to get it's act together? There was some talk a couple of years ago about a complete and total renovation but so far there's been no movement on that.

"Picture a bright blue ball, just spinning, spinnin free,
Dizzy with eternity.
Paint it with a skin of sky,
Brush in some clouds and sea,
Call it home for you and me.
A peaceful place or so it looks from space,
A closer look reveals the human race.
Full of hope, full of grace
Is the human face,
But afraid we may lay our home to waste."

"once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right"
"listen to the thunder shouting, "I AM, I AM, I AM"

It's not a bad market. I haven't been there in a while, but I'm hoping they will carry a larger variety of live seafood. Has a great variety of fresh veggies. Herbs are reasonably priced too. Meat is good quality.

I don't venture over that way much but now you've provided two good reasons to head over there (Mex food and fresh produce). I haven't heard of that Super H Mart but will check it out.

The Serenbe community, in Palmetto, has a Farmer's Market each Sat. from 8am -1pm, selling the produce from their very own organic farm. The restaurants at Serenbe also use their own produce when cooking their dishes. Great concept. (fyi - Steve Nyguen, founder of the Pleasant Peasant restaurants, co-founded and developed Serenbe, a sustainable community, eco-friendly houses, etc.)
