What is a home and lot worth

Past sales in a similar neighborhood for a similar house seem to be the criteria the County uses for tax purposes. But we all know now that those appraiser guys who came around for the banks over the last few years have valued them at whatever the person wanted to borrow! Are we going to continue that.

Maybe the county will use some sales of long ago if not enough sold to place a value on the rest? Maybe one house anywhere that has sold well will be used? Just one! Who knows, I don't.

What does all this do to my Homeowners Insurance replacement costs? Although I can't sell it maybe at a fair price, I sure also can't get it rebuilt at a cheap price? Value to sell and value to replace are two much different things!

I suppose they will rise the millage rate as much as the law allows and use what they think the home ought to be worth!

Anyone in the tax office know what your plan is?

Maybe to cut expenses in half? Maybe?

Try and find just who is responsible for how homes and other things are valued by the county! Who the people who value work for!
Upon your requesting a review of your evaluation----the game begins. I don't expect that any corrections made change the total income to the county and cities significantly, ever.
Why should it? We don't get to appoint our own person to value property!
Again, I think the officials simply collect what they need in some fashion (including the school "Board," who know nothing about home values)regardless of how accurate the basis is.
We need a better way to fund this bunch. How about a luxury tax on items we don't have to have (beans instead of steak for instance)?
