Mike Muetzel was at the helm of the McIntosh varsity boys lacrosse program as it made its way all the way to the state championship game this season, but last Thursday he was dismissed from the position by the school.

"I truly appreciate the opportunity I received from the McIntosh administration to work with lacrosse over the last four years, as a community coach. Each player and each season has been a blessing,” said Muetzel. “I certainly respect their prerogative to make the decisions that they deem to be in the best interest of McIntosh."

McIntosh High School principal Tracie Fleming stated that the school is moving forward with their current certified teacher/coach Tom Hill.

“We may have another lay coach join us in the future, but there are no plans at this moment for anyone in particular,” said Fleming, adding prasie for Muetzel and his success. “Mr. Muetzel has done a good job of bringing our lacrosse program to the level it has reached. We are extremely proud of our program.”

Muetzel, the 2007 U.S. Lacrosse Coach of the Year, Georgia, has been active with the Fayette County Lacrosse Association and plans on still coaching at that level. he leaves McIntosh with an overall record of 40-23, a state playoff record of 4-2 and a Georgia All Star Head Coach record of 3-1. He is undecided on whether he will continue to coach at the high school level.

I bet some high school will want to snap up Muetzel
as their lacrosse coach.
