Mrs Winner's fire

It was a total loss Sunday night as the Mrs. Winner’s restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 in Fayetteville burned. Three employees on duty were the only ones inside the building. All escaped uninjured.

Fayetteville Fire Public Information Officer Bill Rieck said the fire began at approximately 8:30 p.m. Either a drive-thru customer or a passer-by noticed smoke and flames coming from the exterior of the building and alerted employees, Rick said.

Firefighters arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames, Rieck added.

Mrs. Winner’s Marketing Director Robert Jacks said at the scene the store had recently undergone exterior upgrading.

“We’re going to re-group and hopefully re-open,” Jacks said.

Does anyone else remember when Mrs. Winners originally was built as a Granny's restaurant? This was back in the 70s when F'ville had very few restaurants. It was a very big deal when it opened as I recall.

Drove by today and took a double look. Wow,it burned right down to the ground. Glad to read that the employees escaped without any injuries.

I would also like to add that numerous firefighters from the City of Fayetteville and Fayette County worked in high heat conditions to keep the flames from spreading to adjacent structures. Both city and county fire crews worked for 4 hours to mitigate the incident. Fire crews met with downed power lines and a natural gas fire while fighting the fire. City of Fayetteville & Fayette County fire crews worked in a coordinated effort to contain the fire.

to our firefighters both city and county as they risk their lives to protect others and property.

But that store was an absolute DUMP...it's been in dire need of a remodel for years. They didn't even keep the place clean.

Now just a minute. An unclean place and a natural gas fire!

Doesn't the fire department and the health department regularly inspect this place, or did?

There are a few restaurants in the County and the town that are dirty.
The little Waffle House near Chin Chin in PTC for one.

Apparently there is no regulation about nastiness!

Next time you enter a restaurant (who has the light on) look around on the walls, the booths, under the tables, the bathrooms, kitchen floor, etc.

The beloved Atlanta Bread Company that Peachtree City loves so much bombed their health inspection to an outstanding degree. That place is still packed out everyday.

Last inspection showing online was a 93 dated 10.10.07

Not sure if that fits my definition of "bombed".

ABC's last 2 inspections haven't been posted yet. "Bombed" is the correct word for it. The one after was a little better but not by much. They are still under review.

I used to work at Atlanta Bread Company in Fayetteville and it is the filthiest restaurant I have ever worked in - besides - Old Mill Steak House on Hwy 54. Maybe their score now is high, but what was it the 1st time the health department came in? In Fayetteville, the score was so low that the health department came back in 3 days and stated if the changes were not made, they would close the place. Then the score was high after we had to clean everything in sight. So don't be decieved by a high score - it could be the 2nd or 3rd time the health department came out.

The Waffle House to which you refer scored a 93 on its last inspection report- higher than Chin Chin and many popular PTC restaurants, including Carrabas, Ted's, and the beloved Partner's.

Fayette County Restaurant Inspections.

But don't let the facts get in the way of some good ol' ranting.

Then the inspections are terrible!

Go and look for yourself! Check the windowsills, the windows, the employees dress, the floor around the cook, etc.

For others who don't think. The 2000 plus degree heat from the fire ignited the gas meter causing a natural gas fire as well as burning the power lines down.

What caused the 2000 degree heat?
