Comcast troubles, anyone?

Last fall we "upgraded" to Comcast's digital cable and then, this winter, added HD.

But ever since -- and especially since adding HD -- several channels have been unwatchable because of something called "tiling." The picture basically is fragmented into little blocks that dance around on the screen. It only happens on some channels, and it comes and goes on some of them.

A few weeks ago we had a couple techs out to the house and they told my wife there was some sort of general problem in the area that they were working on. They also said we had a weak signal and might need to have our original (15-yr-old) coaxial cable into the house replaced, or maybe some of the internal cable.

Since then the problem has gotten WORSE, with ESPN among others barely watchable and the vaunted Comcast "on demand" service unusable because of this "tiling."

My question to you all is: Anyone else had this issue after a Comcast upgrade? I'm wondering if it really is a problem in our area or just at certain houses. If you have had this problem, how was it resolved?

Just curious before I do anything rash like check into satellite...

Call and schedule techs, day after day until they come out and replace the lines for FREE, do not let them charge you a dime. Also, every day your service does not work right you are entitiled to a credit.

We had to have 2 new lines run to the house from the street (at their expense). If they still give you trouble file a complaint with Peachtree City (or your local municipality) they have a contact on service and can be fined if they fail in providing service paid for.

If you have any questions, or need help contact me: rjolly@jollytechnologies.net

Thanks Ryan
1. So is it your belief this is a house-specific thing?
2. You had 2 separate lines run into your house? Was that to cut down on splitting the signals for bedrooms?

And thanks for the suggestion on filing a complaint with the city -- I wasn't aware of that route.

I've been pretty passive with them so far because we're not that big a boob-tubers, but if I don't have my ESPN for college game day this fall I'll go postal!!

Many houses in PTC have old cable lines that need replacing, but comcast will not replace until customers complain. I would called 28 days in a row, and had 28 technictians come out and they finally did what I told them to do, which was run dual lines. We run 3 digital boxes, a hd boxs, a highspeed modem/phone box. It is best to have the boses on one line and modem/phone on the other. You can also request (for free) a booster where the line meets the side of the house.

The reason Comcast is the only cable provider in town is because they have a contract with the city to be the sole provider of cable tv.

I would definatley stay away from satellite, it is even more a pain and you have to have a contract. Comcast you dont.

I do some side work for them, so if you need a look over your system let me know (www.jollytechnologies.net)

When you call 404-comcast (not the 800 number) ask for my friend technictian Curt .

He helped a whole lot when we had our initial troubles

DO NOT LET THEM TRY TO CHARGE YOU ANYTHING TO FIX THIS, IT IS INCLUDED IN YOUR MONTHLY FEES

Also, any problems with your bills, go see the ladies at the PTC office on Huddelton Road they are a great help.

Remeber the Triple Play is renemable after the first year, you just have to take a copy of your bill to the local office to renew it, DONT call the 800 or 404 number they will tell you no.

Have a Great Day,

I've had this trouble for a few days, but it seems sporadic-the HD channels usually come in crystal clear. I have had internet trouble lately with Comcast-don't get me started on their customer service (the ladies at the PTC office are nice however.)!
