Shot fired in air during Fayetteville dispute

Fayetteville police have arrested a sixth person for taking part in an shooting incident at The Banquet Hall off Glynn Street Jan. 27.

Freeman Lamar Thomas, 20, of Brentwood Boulevard, Palmetto was arrested Tuesday and charged with participating in gang activity.

The incident started as an argument between gang members from Creekside High School in Fulton County, but it ended with one person firing a gunshot into the air, police said.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

When the first five arrests were made two weeks ago, police searched one of the suspects’ homes and found gang paraphernalia and “gang bibles,” which are books containing gang rules and information that must be memorized, police said.

This can't be true...after all, we don't have a gang problem, remember?

The gang wannabe people would love it if we had corrupt cops like Atlanta and Detroit...they could pay them off and move in.

But, sadly for the gang wannabe crowd they keep getting arrested when they come to Fayette County. Once we get a DA with some teeth, their little mistakes are going to really cost them.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "a DA with some teeth." The way I understand it, Mr. Ballard has been strict on criminals. Have I been misled (serious question)?

No, you have not missed anything. Several months ago, the Fayette County High School "gang fight in bathroom" incident was handled by Mr. Ballard. All the accused juvenile gang members received jail sentences. Then many bloggers protested the sentences were too strict and unfair.People who want to make you think as they do freqently tell only one side of the story.

Yes, you have been misled.

Mr Ballard thought he was still a defense attorney until he had a challenger .....all of a sudden he seems to have waken up to the fact that he is actually a DA. GEE, who knew?

Previous to Mr. Ballard criminals always looked forward to getting the maiximum sentence everytime. That is part of why Fayette County was feared and free of crime. The criminals knew where the county line was, because they know our Sheriff's Dept. is serious about fighting crime, and they knew if they got arrested they would get the maximum penalty everytime.

That is what makes this a great place to live for people who obey the law.

I'm familiar with the details surrounding this incident. Is there anything else besides this though? It seems like Mr. Hayes' entire campaign message is "Scott Ballard testified for a pedophile. Vote for me."

Not quite as good as Huck, but then, nothing is. To use Huck's terminology, there were plenty of "stretchers" told, to be sure.

The article clearly states that the "Gang" was from Fulton County.... I realize that both Fulton and Fayette start with the letter "F" but even a government education reader should be able to figure out that Fulton County is the ajoining county to the north and west of us.

Got that straight now? okay then, we can proceed.

We don't have a "gang problem" because our county sheriff has been doing a good job of keeping their gang activities down by doing just what was done here by the Fayetteville Police... arresting their droopy pant butts!

I'm more concerned with the presence of gang related activity than the perpetrators' addresses. Place-of-origin is largely irrelevant. What do you think these gang members, regardless of where they're from, were doing here in the first place? Odds are their intentions weren't exactly scrupulous.

I'm not bashing the county law enforcement agencies, I think they've done a fine job. Some of us aren't in denial, though.

Oh yes, I didn't really see why it was necessary for you to insult my intelligence. If that's how you make your arguments then so be it.

Yes, it can be true. Randall said: "We will not allow any such activity to take root in our community." They seem to be catching them before the activity takes root.

I'm confused! How can you catch them here if they aren't here?
Is it like tenure as college professors---they don't count unless they are over 21?

the crime continues but they don't label it GANG activity. It's a bad, bad word right now.

Anybody out there know of a drive by shooting recently that took place in a subdivision but no one was home?
