Ground is being cleared and construction of the first phase of what will become the 800,000 square-foot Fischer Crossing retail center could be underway by Aug. 1. The initial phase, destined for the north side of Ga. Highways 54/34 and Fischer Road will include approximately 250,000 square feet of retail.

First up on the northeast side of the Fischer Road intersection will be a 136,000 square-foot Sam’s Club, a 14,000 square-foot CVS Pharmacy and a 10,000 square-foot Japanese restaurant. Also in the first phase and located on the northeast side of Fischer and Hwy. 54 will be a 14-screen, 39,000 square-foot theater and two, 20,000 square-foot buildings that will house upscale retail shops and restaurants, said Scott Seymour of Seymour Development Corp.

Seymour said the new development will not look like traditional retail developments. Instead of squared-off, box-style buildings, the development will have an upscale village-type look, with many of the store fronts featuring varying elevations.

Information provided at the development’s website shows the project with a “walkable” pedestrian-friendly environment and a Village Center as its focal point that retains a Main Street character.

I don't know about anyone else, but a Sam's club doesn't really sound like an "Avenue" style shopping center. From what I have heard though, the Sam's club will be going on the North West corner instead of the North East Corner, and Fischer Rd. will actually divide the two separate "looks"

It will be interesting to see if they can get any tenants - I notice that there are still lots of empty buildings on both sides of the Line Creek in PTC and Coweta and several tenants have already closed down. It doesn't seem that our population can quite yet support all of this shopping!

It sounds to me like it will be a real nice place. Spend the money, you can't take it with you.

More places for bored PTC housewives to go hang out and spend money.

What? No nail salons, rub parlors, hamburgers, hotdogs, loan companies, tattoo shops, car loans for titles places, $5 ice cream places, another Starbucks $5 coffee place,(with Wii), military recruiting station, liquor stores (2), Banks (4), Wings (3), Bars (3) (with some food), and of course--Style shops (4)?

Those are the shops that our mayor has opted for us within the 175,000 square footage on our side of Line Creek.

Don't forget about those check cashing places and title pawns.

Just my two cents worth.

Talk about shortsightedness. By the time this development is completed we'll be lucky if there's still a consumer driven middle-class to patronize it.

Sams and the Movie Theater will do well here.
