[Fayette County sheriff’s candidate Dave] Simmons and campaign helpers: please be mindful of Fayette County laws and ordinances. Your sign was placed on my private property without permission. I most certainly did remove your offensive sign. How dare you complain that Mr. Wayne Hannah’s sign was left up. I am supporting Mr. Hannah, not someone retired for 12 years from a high-crime city. This time I assumed that this breach of protocol was perpetrated by hooligan teens. So I simply threw the offensive sign in the trash. In the future I will be calling the police and pressing charges for criminal trespass and littering on my property. Please try to obey the laws of our county. It would be in your best interest to at least appear to be law-abiding. - - - - - - - - - - - It was so nice to see a “non-geek” win the McIntosh “Most Outstanding Senior” Award on Friday night. The winner is one of the finest young men I’ve ever known, and it’s about time he got the recognition he deserves. Hats off to the McIntosh faculty for making the right selection. - - - - - - - - - - - Hey, Delta pilots, I can’t wait to see YOU out of work because the flight attendants are on strike. Should be fun to watch. - - - - - - - - - - - Delta and Northwest merging? What happened to “Keep Delta My Delta”? Don’t worry, though, the pilots union will screw it up. - - - - - - - - - - - I have heard that the Fayette County School System is refusing to reinstate a number of teachers who are about to reach their third year [of seniority] and be out of reach. I have spoken to two of these teachers, and they have nothing in their records that indicated that they had not been good teachers. It makes one wonder if [the human resources department] is trying to find any reason it can to not renew contracts so it can make room for friends in another county that is in trouble. I have heard from very good sources that these teachers along with their principals were treated with very poor professional ethical conduct. I think it would be wise for someone to look into this department’s conduct. - - - - - - - - - - - I am a parent of a girl playing softball for Peachtree City. We love the organization and have always been pleased with the coaches and the people who run the league, and our experience for the past few years of playing has been wonderful. All of the parents have been great and encouraging to their daughters for playing and being good sports and trying hard. I do have one complaint, though, and that is the team that many of us have to play against, the Tyrone Tornadoes. I have to say that I am very saddened by that team’s bad sportsmanship. Kicking dirt at the umpires, yelling for not making ”good” plays, throwing tantrums about losing the games. Yes, it’s true, this has gone on in about 90 percent of the games played against the Tornadoes. No, I am not talking about the girls on the team, but the coach. Although, I think the girls are picking up this rotten behavior. Per my daughter, they have played against the Tornadoes and at the end of the game when they all get on the field to high-5 for a game well played, they were told by the team, “Bad game.” Shame on you, coach, for your rotten behavior. It is sad when not only the parents notice bad behavior by an adult, but when a child notices the bad behavior by an adult. That says a lot. Remember, it’s not if you win or lose, but how you play the game. So even if your team does win, your bad sportsmanship shows you are a loser in our book. - - - - - - - - - - - OK, the tires on my golf cart were not the best in the world, and after fixing my sixth flat in the rain, I had had enough. So I go to buy a new set of tires at Peachtree City Golf Carts and I get there 15 minutes after closing. I was walking back to my golf cart when the worker walks out and asks if I need help. This man and the lady on register took their time to help me pick out and purchase a set of used tires (20 bucks each and most are 90 percent new or better!). I would just like to say thank you to them and say that if you are in the market for anything golfcart-related, shop there before anywhere else, because customer service like this is hard to come by these days. - - - - - - - - - - - As the 73-year-old about whom someone wrote in and said I probably didn’t earn the money I wrote about, know that I grew up in the Depression. My father was a maintenance man, when he could work. I never had enough money to go to college when I graduated, and never earned over $40,000 in the over 30 years I worked. But I learned how to save at an early age (probably because of my experiences during the Depression) and how to invest my money. And yes, I went through reorganizations and layoffs (thankfully, not too long). But I learned how to invest in dividend-paying stocks and bonds and how to reinvest the dividends in other dividend-paying stocks, and it didn’t matter to me who was president. So it wasn’t my intention to defend Bush (though it does seem strange that the economy was going along well until the Democrats took over Congress again). Just that everyone has to take responsibility for their own lives and not blame the president for everything. Note that the president only recommends and it is the Congress that actually passes bills, and neither party has lived up to their responsibilities. And none of the current candidates meets my approval. - - - - - - - - - - - I too am mortified at the racist attitude of the person who wrote in regarding the upcoming presidential election. It is not about black and white. Obama is not African-American and if you truly knew anything about this man, you would know this and you would stop making it about race. Go to Snopes and read the facts about Obama. It shouldn’t be about race, but about what is best for this country. Hillary may not be the best candidate either, but I would certainly vote for her over Obama any day, given the facts I’ve learned about him. Regardless of race, religion or anything else, do your research and then voice your racist opinion. - - - - - - - - - - - The greed in the oil industry has progressed beyond greed and into absolute insanity. This situation must be stopped and reversed now or this country is in more trouble than most people can possibly imagine. The oil company executives are so rich and powerful they are sitting in front of a congressional investigating committee today and lying through their teeth. Much of what they claim a barrel of oil costs is the result of manipulation of the stock market by these same rich people. They claim that the astronomical profits they are taking is necessary for exploration and development of new oil sources. When is the last time you heard of a new source of oil being found and developed? Not since Alaska and that was so long ago I don’t even remember the date. The fact is those huge profits are going to the thousands of oil industry executives who are receiving in excess of $100 million a year in salary, bonuses and perks. The people who pay that money are the working class of America, who are losing their homes and businesses and being plunged into abject poverty as a result. If this situation continues, there is going to be rioting in the streets of America, and for the first time ever it will not be disgruntled minorities looking for special privileges. login to post comments |
