September 26th and 27th at "The Fred". Finally something above average at a local venue. I'm there!

For years, a highlight of my summer was catching an Allman Brothers show somewhere and hearing "Blue Sky"--my all time favorite song.
Not long after Jerry Garcia's death, Dickey would open with chords from the Dead's "Franklin's Tower" and then move into "Blue Sky" to everyone's sheer delight. But then, apparently someone ratted out Dickey for blogging or something, and the band kicked him out. So these past several years, that's been missing from the Bros. shows.
Looks like we'll get to hear him play it in PTC, of all places.

Yep, I'm there!

His last show with the Brothers was in May 7, 2000 at Music Midtown in Atlanta. He was not kicked out for blogging but for his continued problems with alcohol. To this day it continues to be somewhat of a problem. I followed the ABB and their extended family of bands such as Dickey. His shows get either great reviews or lousy reviews from the people that still want to see him. It all depends on Dickey. On a side note, his son Duane (named after you know who) is in his band.

The Allman Brothers will be at Chastain October 10 and 11.

In the Summer of '77 my family and I were moving from "the city"...about 5 miles west of NYC to the 'burbs....in the "mountains of Jersey". John Scher was promoting a series of free shows in two large county parks (Reservations) in my new town. One was Dickey and great Southern. With an amazing view of NYC ~15 miles East they played for what seemed like forever. Later that summer I saw the Dead at Englishtown and the rest, as they say, is history. Nobody does stuff like that anymore! See you at the show.Love those versions of Franklin's > Blue Sky by the way. Unless we chance it for another one of those subversive "coffee meetings" before then. Just for the record, I'm personally sickened by what I've read is happening to you. Where I'm from.....people get "whacked" for that kinda thing!

"Picture a bright blue ball, just spinning, spinnin free,
Dizzy with eternity.
Paint it with a skin of sky,
Brush in some clouds and sea,
Call it home for you and me.
A peaceful place or so it looks from space,
A closer look reveals the human race.
Full of hope, full of grace
Is the human face,
But afraid we may lay our home to waste."

"once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right"
"listen to the thunder shouting, "I AM, I AM, I AM"

;>} Have a grateful day ;>}

Here's Dickey at a NY show last year.

Blue Sky.

Oh, man. I hear that tune and God is in his heaven and all is right with the world.

I suspect that Atlanta-area ABB afficionados will flood the Fred. Better get tix early.

This is an exclusive tie-dye affair. Sorry, no exceptions.

sounds like some great music. We may have to go to that Dickie Betts concert this summer.

(you're something else....to still have a great sense of humor through this. Remember... when life kicks you, it kicks you FORWARD.)

Yeah, I'm thinking of forming my own band now. I've got a Goldtop and can even pick out "Blue Sky" on it. I'll intersperse quick lectures on externalist epistemology or Kantian ethics in between tunes on the setlist. Probably won't be playing stadiums at first.

If that doesn't work, then I'll play street corners with my case open.

I saw a cartoon once that had a haggard looking guy holding a sign that read: "PHILOSOPHER. WILL ARGUE FOR FOOD." I used to find that funny.
