Shooting suspect

A Fayetteville man pled guilty this morning to shooting a Gwinnett woman and a Fayetteville policeman in August 2006.

Jarrod Michael Gooden, of Byington Drive, was sentenced to 40 years in prison by Fayette Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwel Jr.

Caldwell said he wished he could have sentenced Gooden to another 30 years based on the fact that he shot at Fayetteville officer Kevin Ingram during the incident. Officers said Ingram may have been grazed by a bullet judging by an ear injury.

Police said Gooden opened fire on the victim, striking her several times and then shot at Ingram as he exited his patrol car.

Ingram had just pulled into the parking lot at Crumpton's Furniture after noticing Gooden and the woman on foot around 3 a.m. well after businesses in the area has closed.

having such easy access to guns. If...this man hadn't had access to a gun at 3am, we may not be reading about this. It's plain he wasn't of the maturity or intelligence to own one.

How true. Because no one has ever attempted to assault anyone with a car- especially not an officer. Nope, no one has ever tried to runover a cop using a car, especially not at 3am. If they ever do, however, I hope you come back to this website and discuss the need to restrict "easy access" to automobiles.

the point is most people have a valid use for a car, but not a day to day use for a gun, except something like this. This man should have never had a gun in his possession. In all my life, I've never had a reason to own a gun. If I bought a hand gun, my only thoughts would be that at some point I needed it to kill someone. That doesn't cross my mind as I got rid of my x years ago.
