John Grisham: The Appeal

Thinking that I was going to take my mind off the current news, politics, etc., I started reading a novel. Wow! Fascinating! Sometimes the line between fiction and non-fiction is very thin.

I've lost my Snifflewife to "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini. She's says it's the best book she's read in over 3 years, and that's saying something.

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" Is that by the same author who wrote Kite Runner? If so, I'll need to pick it up for myself. "Kite Runner" was an awesome book.... but the movie was just so-so.

Since time is currently in short supply, which of those two books (Kite Runner or Suns) do you consider to be more relevant to current issues?

I have heard a number of people, across different political perspectives, label "Kite Runner" as an important current work.

"The World is Flat" by Friedman is probably the most potent, current events book I have read in the last 5 years.

I'll go get it this week at Books a Million. I'm finishing up "Deer Hunting With Jesus" and I need another book to read.

btw- I recommend 'Kite Runner' if you're looking for something to read.... (the spouse read it too and he loved it, even though he hates fiction....

HE ASKED ME TO TELL YOU AND YARDMAN, HI! SO, HI!)

Smiling I thought that reading this novel would take my mind off of the 'news' - but Grisham has creatively included politics, religion, and greed in a well-written story. Easy reading - he's a great storyteller.

I visited Memphis last year. I was walking around downtown after dark and noticed a bronze historical marker on one of the older buildings. "Author John Grisham wrote his novel 'The Firm' in this building 1984-1985".

I got a kick out of what Memphis considers "historical"! Sticking out tongue
