Key to seek reelection to school boardTue, 04/29/2008 - 2:55pm
By: The Citizen
Many people in the community have asked me to run for reelection to the Board of Education. After much thought, I have decided to run again for another term in the Post 3 position. My focus for the next four years, as it has been in the past, will be on the needs of our students. The slowdown in the economy and the slowing of growth in student enrollment will necessitate better planning in all areas. I believe that listening to parents cannot be just an open gesture, but must be a sincere method of gauging the needs of students. If Fayette County is to remain a quality system, we must continue to look at alternative ways of reaching students. I have the qualifications and abilities to help in this process. I have an education specialist degree in elementary education. I retired after teaching over 30 years, nine years in elementary schools, and 25 years at Clayton State University. I helped write the teacher education curriculum for Clayton State. I serve on the board of directors of the Fayette County Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization of business and education leaders, that gives cash grants to teachers for special programs in their classroom. Currently, I work part time in the Children’s Morning Out program at Peachtree City United Methodist Church. My husband of 40 years, Jere, is a retired Fayette County teacher. We have two grown children who graduated from Fayette County schools. Lori, my daughter, is a social studies teacher in Cobb County. My son Scott is serving as a captain in the U.S. Army. It would be an honor to serve you, the citizens of Fayette County, for four more years as a member of the Board of Education. I ask for your support in this endeavor.
