Key to seek reelection to school board

Many people in the community have asked me to run for reelection to the Board of Education. After much thought, I have decided to run again for another term in the Post 3 position.

My focus for the next four years, as it has been in the past, will be on the needs of our students. The slowdown in the economy and the slowing of growth in student enrollment will necessitate better planning in all areas.

I believe that listening to parents cannot be just an open gesture, but must be a sincere method of gauging the needs of students. If Fayette County is to remain a quality system, we must continue to look at alternative ways of reaching students. I have the qualifications and abilities to help in this process.

I have an education specialist degree in elementary education. I retired after teaching over 30 years, nine years in elementary schools, and 25 years at Clayton State University. I helped write the teacher education curriculum for Clayton State.

I serve on the board of directors of the Fayette County Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization of business and education leaders, that gives cash grants to teachers for special programs in their classroom.

Currently, I work part time in the Children’s Morning Out program at Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

My husband of 40 years, Jere, is a retired Fayette County teacher. We have two grown children who graduated from Fayette County schools. Lori, my daughter, is a social studies teacher in Cobb County. My son Scott is serving as a captain in the U.S. Army.

It would be an honor to serve you, the citizens of Fayette County, for four more years as a member of the Board of Education. I ask for your support in this endeavor.

Marion Key

Fayetteville, Ga.

Come on citizens of Post 3 & Peachtree City. Marion Key is your worst nightmare. Is this the best you can do?

You should be at the school level. She treats McIntosh and Booth like her personal property! I'm so sick of listening to her lie and talk about people. Yeah LEC, I call the super too! God help you if Marion thinks you don't love her. You have to just keep agreeing with her or else. Help, someone save us! I work at Booth and she helps herself to whatever she wants. I'm pretty sure that's not what board members are supposed to do!

I'd like to hear more about this. Are you saying she takes stuff out of the school? What does she help herself to? I am pretty sure board members aren't supposed to be taking anything.

During the redistricting of the Middle Schools she was in the Booth office coercing staff to provide her with student information about which North PTC kids were in Science Olympiad. Apparently she thinks the rest of our kids aren't good enough to carry the team. Fortunately someone blew the whistle and she was stopped. Funny thing, she didn't show up for Science Olympiad this year! Good. It's not about her anyway....it's about the kids! We did just fine. She's always nosing around asking for information the rest of the board never asks about. Isn't that how Clayton County got into trouble!!!

There was a great candidate running against her last election that lost. If someone announces that is worthy of the office I hope the citizens who want change will support them. It didn't happen last time.

During the redistricting process I sent messages to each of the school board members and the only ones who responded were Lee Wright, Janet Smola and Terri Smith. Marion Key never answered a single one, nor did the other guy I can't remember his name and can't review my e-mail history on him. I think it's funny that she says she doesn't think that "cummunicating with parents cannot be an just open gesture"! As a parent, I'd love an open gesture on her part!!!!! Of course because she never responded, I never knew how she felt. I guess that's what she wanted.

You're a riot. Like you really care about our school system, you just like telling people what to do. How about you start by staying out of my office at the LEC. We're sick of you dropping in here to disrupt our day. You spend more time distracting us from our real work that you make Clayton County Board members look like child's play. And by the way Marion, the minute you leave my office I call the Superintendent......someone ought to know what you're up to.
