Six of Fayette's seven incumbent state legislators threw their hats in the political ring early on, qualifying for office by the end of Monday afternoon, according to the Georgia Secretary of State's web site.

So far the only one not yet to qualify is Democrat Roberta Abdul-Salaam, whose District 74 seat extends from Riverdale where she lives down to an area north of Ga. Highway 54 that's also east of Ga. Highway 85.

None of the qualifying incumbents has any challengers yet, but it's early, as qualifying ends Friday. The following incumbents have signed up:

House of Representatives:
Virgil Fludd, D-Tyrone, District 66
Matt Ramsey, R-Peachtree City, District 72
John Yates, R-Griffin, District 73
Darryl Jordan, D-Riverdale, District 77

Senate:
Ronnie Chance, R-Tyrone, District 16
Valencia Seay, D-Riverdale, District 34

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this story erroneously listed the party affiliations of Rep. Virgil Fludd and Sen. Valencia Seay. Both are Democrats. Corrected 4-30-08]

I have heard that a gentleman named Rick Williams has qualified to run against WWII hero John Yates in District 73 House Race. This is the same Rick Williams that is the webmaster for the Fayette Democrat Party, has donated money to the Obama campaign, joined in publicly speaking out in favor of district voting, has attacked Congressman Westmoreland and has always voted Democrat.

The most incredible part is that he qualified as a Republican! We understand a Democrat cannot win in Fayette County but at least stand-up for your convictions. I would urge you, Rick, to check the record of how other "switchers" have done in their shameless attempt to fool voters.

John Yates is an honest public servant and as a voter in his district, I will be supporting him in the REPUBLICAN PRIMARY.

We welcome anyone to come and join the Republican Party, but I must say that I believe Mr. Fludd would be the most liberal of all republicans.

Come-on guys, don't you proofread before you send out?

P.S. I look up and there is Valencia Seay. She too is a republican now.

We welcome you, but in order to win you will need to change ALL of your positions.

I hope a few Fayette Co. citizens will step up and run against this bunch.

How about it Mike King? Run against Ronnie Chance. I'll vote for you. Smiling

Not! She is the one that tried to sneak the word "shall" in place of "may" or "could" in the school contoversy - you know, the one where Clayton County students are "owed" an education even though their administrators can't keep their accreditation.

Trying to scam Fayette County into educating the kids from Clayton is a great scam and it will get her a majority of the Clayton votes (turnout 5%) vs. a minority of the Fayette voters (turnout 20%). Go figure.

Go away please, we don't need that stupidity here.

You can't tell me Ronnie Chance didn't know the wording of the bill, get real. Mitch Seabaugh was pushing the bill in the Senate so Matt Ramsey had to know about it also. Chance, Seabaugh and Ramsey have turned into mini-Lynn Westmorelands.

Vote Republican
