Glenn Richardson, Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, will be speaking at the May 3 breakfast meeting of the Fayette Republican Party at 9 a.m. at the International House of Pancakes in Fayetteville.

Representative Richardson has served many years in service to the state. In 1996, he became the first Republican from Paulding County elected to the Georgia House of Representatives since Reconstruction. In 2003, Governor Sonny Perdue hand- picked Glenn to serve as the Administration Floor Leader in the House and in November 2003, the Republican Caucus chose Glenn to serve as Minority Leader. He was elected to his sixth consecutive term in 2006 to represent House District 19.

As a result of his role in securing Republican control of the House for the first time since Reconstruction, in 2005 Glenn was chosen by his colleagues to serve as the first Republican Speaker of the House in over 130 years.
Richardson has brought about much-needed change for Georgians. He was influential in the requirement of photo identification to vote in Georgia to curb voter fraud, and he has played an instrumental and supporting role in passing Georgia’s laws protecting private property rights and tougher laws against sexual predators. He is leading a new program to help more students graduate from high school by partnering with technical and vocational schools.

He has worked diligently to make it possible for local governments to build more reservoirs so Georgia will be prepared for the next drought and is an advocate of new and improved solutions to address Georgia’s growing transportation problems.

Richardson is a huge proponent of tax reform and worked tirelessly towards the repeal of the entire ad valorem system in the recent session of the Georgia General Assembly.

This controversial tax reform caused heated debate but eventually failed to pass. He will be sharing his plans for further tax reform legislation as well as giving updates on legislative failures and successes from this past session.

This informal breakfast meeting is open to the public and is held the first Saturday of every month. Breakfast may be ordered at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9 a.m. For more information contact the Fayette GOP headquarters at 770-716-1545 or visit the web site at www.FayetteCountyGOP.com.

Since this was a Senate Bill, Glenn Richardson did not sponsor it. In fact, he worked with Rep. Matt Ramsey to change the language and then keep it from being voted on by the House at all. As you know, he is Speaker of the HOUSE. Ronnie Chance is the one to blame on the Senate side and his buddy Eric Johnson from Savannah. This passed the Senate, but not the House.

Yep, you are right. I thought about it after I posted and I said oops. Before I could delete it, my left leaning buddy "yard" chimed in and locked my post. My bad.

I would, but I promised my wife I would clean out my sock drawer. Shocked Seriously, we have Spring Fling at our church and I am manning the grill. Hate to miss the opportunity, though. Keep the faith.
