Today [Wednesday, April 23] Fayette County residents will have an opportunity to engage in a public information session on the proposed transit vision for the metro Atlanta region, known as “Concept 3.” The session is from 4-8 p.m. April 23 at the Fayette County Public Library in downtown Fayetteville and is being sponsored by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. During these meetings, residents will have an opportunity to engage in a public information session on the proposed transit vision and address issues specific to their county. Representatives from the Transit Planning Board (TPB) will be available to answer questions, discuss your concerns and record your input. Representatives from Fayette County, the Clean Air Campaign, MARTA and GRTA will also be present during the open house. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a presentation of the regional transit vision followed by a formal question answer and comment period. The Fayette County town hall meeting is a part of a month long series of public input sessions on “Concept 3.” Cobb County jump started the series followed by meetings in Gwinnett, North Fulton, Douglas, and Rockdale counties as well as the city of Atlanta. Public input sessions in Cherokee and Spalding County were held earlier this year. In seeking public input, TPB hopes to show that implementation of this regional vision, “Concept 3,” will increase choice for congestion-frustrated commuters by providing reliable and predictable transit service throughout the region. “Our goal is to provide a basis for a future regional transit system that will connect the region, provide travel choice, and offer auto competitive travel time and travel time certainty to the region’s commuters and visitors,” said TPB staff director Cheryl King. Concept 3 includes commuter rail, extensions of MARTA rail, light rail/streetcar lines, Bus Rapid Transit lines, and expanded express bus and cross county suburban bus services, expanded local bus services along with expanded local and activity center circulator services. Input from the public will be used to refine the plan before its completion which is scheduled for the end of 2008. For more information, please visit the TPB website at www.tpb.ga.gov.
