Today [Wednesday, April 23] Fayette County residents will have an opportunity to engage in a public information session on the proposed transit vision for the metro Atlanta region, known as “Concept 3.”

The session is from 4-8 p.m. April 23 at the Fayette County Public Library in downtown Fayetteville and is being sponsored by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. During these meetings, residents will have an opportunity to engage in a public information session on the proposed transit vision and address issues specific to their county.

Representatives from the Transit Planning Board (TPB) will be available to answer questions, discuss your concerns and record your input. Representatives from Fayette County, the Clean Air Campaign, MARTA and GRTA will also be present during the open house. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a presentation of the regional transit vision followed by a formal question answer and comment period.

The Fayette County town hall meeting is a part of a month long series of public input sessions on “Concept 3.” Cobb County jump started the series followed by meetings in Gwinnett, North Fulton, Douglas, and Rockdale counties as well as the city of Atlanta. Public input sessions in Cherokee and Spalding County were held earlier this year.

In seeking public input, TPB hopes to show that implementation of this regional vision, “Concept 3,” will increase choice for congestion-frustrated commuters by providing reliable and predictable transit service throughout the region.

“Our goal is to provide a basis for a future regional transit system that will connect the region, provide travel choice, and offer auto competitive travel time and travel time certainty to the region’s commuters and visitors,” said TPB staff director Cheryl King.

Concept 3 includes commuter rail, extensions of MARTA rail, light rail/streetcar lines, Bus Rapid Transit lines, and expanded express bus and cross county suburban bus services, expanded local bus services along with expanded local and activity center circulator services. Input from the public will be used to refine the plan before its completion which is scheduled for the end of 2008.

For more information, please visit the TPB website at www.tpb.ga.gov. Residents are also encouraged to take the TPB Public Involvement Survey at www.surveymonkey.com/TPBconcept3survey .

Lots of ideas and plans which will take lots of money. The problem is where will this money come from.

Did you not know about this meeting or did you hope that no one would notice your tiny headline.

As the meeting started at 4:00 and your announcement of it was posted on the web site a 4:42 it would seem that:

a) Perhaps you have no desire to let the public in on this little secret.

or

b) Nobody bothered to tell the only local paper about having a meeting that could possibly impact some 30,000 county residents.

I guess it’s a good thing someone tried and failed at purchasing sex otherwise we would have no good headlines today.

The story is written for the print edition, in which case "today" is appropriate, since the print version is delivered Wed. morning.

The first (!!!) email notification we got about this meeting was Friday at 3:32 p.m. It was forwarded to a reporter over the weekend. The reporter wrote it up for the Wed. paper and the story was posted online 24 hours in advance of the meeting.

More information is available at the website -- www.tpb.ga.gov/.

What Dealey Plaza enthusiasts like bad_ptc assume is a coordinated plot to cover up vital public information is actually just late notification from the public agency itself and the normal press of press business to get a great deal of information (40+ broadsheet pages full) to the public on as timely a basis as a small staff can manage.

One of our reporters will see you at the meeting on Wed. and you may read about it in a later edition.

My apologies for being later than you would like.

Having, "[Wednesday, April 23]", in the original version would have avoided the confusion.

Do you really think MARTA is holding their breath waiting for Fayette County to comment before they finalize their plans?

I know we can count on Mayor Logsdon to fight the rail and bus intrusions into Peachtree City and Fayette County. We don't need that kind of stuff.

That could be as I'm in Milwaukee tonight.

I think I'm going to start manufacturing "house for sale" signs.
