The idea of Immediate Care Centers of Georgia started as a vision for Dr. Glenn McKenna nearly two years ago. The goal would be to create an urgent care center in the Tyrone and Peachtree City area, focusing on family and emergency medicine. In 2007, the work began and, though the facility has been open for a while, on Saturday, Apr. 26 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Immediate Care Centers of Georgia will have their grand opening.

The state of the art medical facility, located at 190 Greencastle Road, has seven full exam rooms, a physical therapy and procedure room, an X-Ray room and a pharmacy. Created by Dr. McKenna and Dr. Ray Bennett, Immediate Care Centers of Georgia puts their exeprtise and quality service under one roof.

“This center is a dream come true,” said McKenna. “We built it from the ground up and having an independent urgent care center allows us to provide personal service without the big hospital bureaucratic involvement.”

The center’s first customer was a nurse who commended the staff for their service, the facility and their follow-up. A few days after being treated one of the doctors called her to make sure she got her prescription and to see if she felt better. The doctors state that all of their customers can expect to experience a professional and friendly staff and fast, quality service.

“I enjoy being able to positively impact someone’s life on a daily basis,” said Bennett.
McKenna, originally from New Orleans, La., has lived in Georgia for six years and has been practicing emergency medicine for eight years. His grandfather was a pharmacist and his father was an opthamologist, so McKenna has known for a long time that he wanted to practice medicine. He also praised the efforts of Marci, his wife of four years, who was instrumental in getting the center open and is still active in the operation.

Bennett, a native of Nashville, Tenn, was influenced by the work ethic of his father, an oral surgeon, and the impact he had on people. Bennett has traveled to third world countries, treated sick and poor children and adults and has seen the devastation that no access to healthcare causes.

“We wanted to be a part of this growing, yet close-knit community,” said McKenna of Tyrone. “We thought this was a perfect place to have family medicine and emergency medicine come together.”

The grand opening will feature refreshments and family entertainment, but it will also have complimentary bllod pressure screenings, glucose and diabetic screenings, and body mass index checks. Drs. McKenna and Bennett want to invite the public to come out, see the facility and meet the staff.

It would be interesting if they would also create an alcohol rehab in these care centers because there is a big number of people who would definitely need some specialized help.
