Rising Starr Teacher Arrested for Molesting His Niece

Is there anyone else who can shed light on this recent arrest? Craig Bowen was arrested for molesting his niece is all I know.

He was found guilty on all 4 counts this date and will no longer hurt any children. Check Newnan Times tomorrow morning.

With all of the comments on here, it is very sad and hurtful to read. It seems as everyone just wants to have their own input so they can be involved. Everyone needs to please keep in mind that there are victims in this situation and a grieving family. There have never been reports of Coach Bowen hitting on students of any sort, so for all of a sudden everyone make him out to be a bad guy is disgusting. He is no longer in the school system and never did anything to any of his students. No one's lives are being affected except for the family and his students who will just finish out the semester with a new teacher. It sickens me that everything writen on here is going to haunt someone who was innocent and a victim for the rest of their life. What he deserves is coming to him and everyone needs to quit trying to make a horrible event into the talk to of the town. Please just have some respect and instead of trying to hype up the story, say a prayer for the victim and family. thanks!

I noticed you are doing the exact same thing in helping "make it the talk of the town." Thanks for your input.

There isn't anything directed at the victim here, only the perp.If you don't think that a sensational story like Bowen's isn't going to be talked about, you aren't living in reality too well.

I am sure that the police are doing the best they can with this situation. I am sure if anyone has any information on this case, they would love to hear from you.
Keep the victim and the families in your prayers.

I was his student too. And personally like I can kinda see how this happened. I'm not saying he's guilty but he would look down our shirts and at our butts. So I guess that's why this isn't such a complete shocker to me and some other people too. But looking at his picture and seeing all the rude comments[which i hope you don't think mine is] it makes me sad to think that he's in jail while he was just teaching us like 2 weeks ago.
And to the ptcstinks person.....we're not all that shallow.

Here is an excerpt from the letter sent home at RSMS.

“…I want to inform you that eight grade social studies teacher Craig Bowen has been arrested and charged with aggravated child molestation in Coweta County. The charge does not involve any students enrolled at Rising Starr Middle or in the Fayette County School System. Mr. Bowen is no longer teaching at our school.”

Well, big shocker- gospel singer and schoolteacher is a molester.Like that's a first.
Our kids had Bowen for a teacher and track coach and thought he was great. I met him a few times and would never have known he was capable of such acts. But again, I would like more concrete information before condemning this man and his family.

Why doesn't the Citizen have news of this? This is big news! Child molesters need to be published in the paper - with his picture! I hope the school is interviewing the students he had. Once a molester, always a molester & I bet there are more than 1 kid involved! I wonder if he went on school field trips with the kids. Those parents better start asking questions of their children.

It just happened damn give it some time. I was his student. In his home room and I had him for Social Studies. Yesterday, in homeroom everyone was speculating why all his stuff was gone and at the end of the day we recieved that letter. Yes, he did attend field trips with us. We had some stupid Washington trip planned which would be like 5 days long that he would've gone on with us this May as well. I personally liked him. He was easy going and layed back (usually)
He never gave us homework either. He has his own daughter who he explained to us one day in class that he isn't too fond of because one time she ran off and got in the car with someone else. (I guess now we know why) - Krunkdog

Mr. Bowen does not have a daughter. He has one son. Who is grown and out of the house. He and his wife had two "foster daughters" who have since left.

It's bad enough about this story, but your language is not helping! Luckily, The Citizen caught the title line and corrected it.
Maybe your Parents need to monitor what you are writing.
You certainly do not need to be speculating on what other students are saying about this home life. As far as the "Stupid" Washington trip, why were you going in the first place?
Go do your homework!

The rabid animals that the "parents"(???) left at home alone...are wandering....they need to take their poor "manners" back to myspace and facebook.

I guess we should follow PTC police philosphy on the loser kids...."if their parents don't care why should we"??

It is sad, most kids when they go to middle school are home alone until parents get home from work- or their parents don't care. Our morals are going down the drain.

I have to say I am one of the few moms that's home when my son comes home- I see it on our street and from his friends.

They need to raise their kids with some respect and how to be civil, again some adults are not respectful and civil. You got it when you said are your parents just as bad???? I find it sad.

It sounds like we both agree that parents need to put parenting first, ahead of their own personal agenda. The failure of so many parents to put their kids ahead of their careers is the root cause of a lot of what's going wrong in our country.

The problem is her tone. "I have to say I am one of the few moms.." She holds herself out as this great Christian and great mom, and judges everyone else. I understand that you don't have a problem with that...you do the same thing. But none of this has anything to do with anarchism. If you are going to insult me, please at least keep to the topic.

You have one child, I think. Many people have anywhere from 2-10, and about 65% of the time no one Father, and no Father at home.
You said you "tried" to be a good parent with your one. I suppose those ladies with ten would make that same statement, but it isn't working. Trying doesn't cut it---success does.
It takes planning such a thing from great grandparents through to current parents on both sides to raise proper children!
It isn't working in PTC either due to lack of concern. The current generation are so rude, mean, and have no respect for anyone that they will start raising their kids the same way. Insread of example, time, and training, a "toy" is bought and they are shoved aside so the parents can "fully" have all of their time.
The prime responsibility has changed from doing with less and helping the kids more, to trying to provide more money!

BPR's picture
Submitted by BPR on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 12:48pm.

I think someone else just called me that.Puzzled We don't have any grandparents that live here, two are in heaven, two in a different state. We don't have any relatives that live here.

I choose to have the jobs I have so I can be with my child and spend time with him and monitor him- Sure, I could get another job- I won't do that just to have more money. I am thankful that I have the jobs I have- I work full time, just different jobs- they are all around when my child is at home. I feel blessed and thank God.

If you have 10 kids you can't afford to work, it cost too much for child care. I know the next question why if I had 10 kids, I already told you I would work a seperate shift from my husband so one of us would be supervising them.

What if you didn't have any of the husbands of the kids? Which is the case I sighted!
How are those ladies supposed to work? They don't work now and can't support them either!
You seem to never get the point, or refuse to address it! What I meant by three generations was it takes that long where EACH generation, three in a row, raise their kids correctly, to end up with a new generation of well brought up kids. It is not happening often now.
What kind of jobs allow you to be at home at all hours, be there every week-end, be there every school day off, be there at school vacations, and be there all summer?
How much does your husband participate in the daily raising of your son? This is one of the major problems of today. No male influence (good influence).

BPR's picture
Submitted by BPR on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 4:15pm.

Sage, since I go to church, my church has some stay at home moms that it's their ministry to watch kids that if they are from a single family home. So, I would do that.

BTW if your church does not do that go to the pastor and I am sure they would glad to help find someone to help out.

I work at a preschool and I work from home for a company. They allow me to do this. So, yes I am blessed. I am home when he is in the summer and when he gets home from school.

My husband helps me out with all the things that involve my son, he attends games, band, meetings with teacbers, hey he even washes clothes, What a guy. He does everything that I do- he spends time with him doing things they enjoy.

Also, again my church has dads that will spend time with boys and moms that withh girls that don't have a dad or mom present. They do things toghether that they enjoy.

It is not about you particularly, bpr.
A church is going to keep up to 10 kids for a woman to make $7 and hour somewhere? No.

Also, don't these Moms you speak of at church get paid? Do they pay taxes on the pay?

So you don't work full-time as you say? Off all summer.

I have tried to discuss things with you before and it is quite impossible as you always go back to your church as the answer, which I do not believe happens!

What is a stay-at-home ministry---never mind.....

BPR's picture
Submitted by BPR on Thu, 04/17/2008 - 6:41pm.

Do you go to church? The reason I ask you act like you have never heard of people giving and not expect something from it.

No, your not paid, they do it as a ministry to help single moms or dads. Since they don't get paid they don't pay taxes.Laughing out loud They keep the kids at their house for you.

Yes, I do work full time, in the summer my company work increases, but I am still at home with my child.

Different moms keep different kids. Why is that so hard to understand. They don't want to get paid, they want to help out the parent.

Anymore questions about my life.

No matter what, when it comes to child upbringing it takes 2.
On the other hand, you can do the best you can and no matter what if a individual wants to do wrong, they will no matter what the upbringing was. IMHO

"No matter what...it takes 2..." Bullhocky! A good single mom can do a lot better than a disfunctional 2-parent family any day of the week. Moreover, many parents do a better job at co-parenting once they are divorced. You may not like Bill Clinton (I don't particularly)..but say what you will, he made it pretty darn far in American politics, after having been raised by a single mom. Obama has come a long way, also. Give me a darn break with your "no matter what" You are engaging in rank stereotyping at its worst.

I think people make choices to have things or their freedom to do what they want- having a child means raising that child. The child is the first priority or should be.

I am thankful I am able to be here. If I couldn't be, I would work a different shift so he would always be supervised by my husband or myself.

I feel sad for the kids, of course they don't tell you- they need you and want you to pay attention and do things with them. That way they feel loved and valued by you. I do find it sad.

Another sad thing is alot of kids come from single family homes. If that were my case I would find someone they could stay with until I got home.
