The Blame GameThe time has come when we have to decide whether we are going to live in the past or turn our eyes to the future. All too often, it is easy for us to slip into the mode of "Whose fault is all this anyway?" Mr. Bush's War, Clinton's indiscretions, the Banking/Mortgage Crisis, Rev. Wright's influence. All these things have taken place in the past, all of which do, indeed, have an influence on what we do now and in the future. One of the great sayings that we all like to quote is "Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it". The assumption implicit in that is that we will be moving forward. Learning from the past means that, the next time, we will do things different. All this came to mind last evening as we were discussing the mortgage situation and how it started. As we traded barbs and accusations, I got to thinking just what this was accomplishing. There are major problems facing our nation today. There are many points of view as to what is wrong and what to do about it. Government spending out of control, taxation a burden on ALL taxpayers and little to show for it. There must be things on which we all agree and THAT should be our challenge. Find the points of agreement and work from there to solve the problems. Differences of opinion will always exist within our system. In fact, our system thrives on those differences of opinion. The more contentious the election the more interest there is in it. But we cannot let those sorts of things cloud our vision. The elections are not the primary goal, good governing is. And the only way we can govern effectively is if the people are represented fairly. To do that, we have to put aside our desire to place blame for problems and fight to create solutions to those problems. Keep the faith yardman5508's blog | login to post comments |
