Evidence of "winning" in Iraq

The President of the US said this week that we were obviously winning the battle in Iraq since the enemy (militant Shiites, Al Qaeda, militant other Muslims, and the Iraqi Army (infiltrated by high percentage of terrorists) have become very active!
The Iraqi army was getting thumped good and we sent in fighter bombers and blew up some stuff. Our boys have reloaded their guns again to keep them out of the "green zone." However the rockets are still coming in. Once again the civilians are leaving for their own safety.

I din;t know just how much longer the Iraqis will continue to get killed for the current government, but I'll just bet on a mutiny very soon!

One way to get us to forget about Iraq is to bomb Iran.

I am not that old. As a kid, the first military operation I really followed was the failed Desert One rescue attempt of our citizens held hostage in Iran. I remember the stories of Vietnam from my dad, Uncle Jimmy, and Uncle Robert, all of whom were there. I remember our raids on Libya, Desert Storm 1, Bosnia, failed actions in Somalia. The difference I see with this current war is that it is absolutely self sustaining and we are not paying its bills.

If violence decreases Iraqi to Iraqi, we say this is a sign that we're making progress, and we must stay and continue this progress.

If violence goes up Iraqi to Iraqi, we say this is proof that we can't leave.

All the while we arrogantly say "we must win" as if Iraqi Sunni and Shiite relations have anything to do with us; as if Iraqi sovereignty somehow belongs to us. I wonder if Iraqis could solve the rift between Republicans and Democrats. Is this "their" political fight? No. No more than Maliki and Talabani's government is "ours."

And THE MOST SICKENING part is our contractors are becomming absolutely filthy stinking rich from this war. The longer we fight, the more KBR, Halliburton, Blackwater, and all of the other non-military war corporations make; disgusting really, when you see the jobs these companies are actually doing; projects over budget, incomplete, and hopelessly behind schedule; 12 soldiers electrocuted AKA killed in KBR built and/or maintained showers. Over-billing of meals; tainted water. Okay, I'm climbing off of my soap box, but I dream of a day when we will hold anyone other than our soldiers, accountable for horrible, flawed decisions, and sub standard performance. 15 month tours should come with a guarantee of the BEST SUPPORT money can buy! No more; no less.

Cheers,
