Tyrone Council Mislead?

In the Saturday edition of The Citizen John Munford reports that Peachtree City has experienced an 8.5% decline in sales tax revenue so far this year; Ben Nelms reports that in Tyrone Chris Venice stated that the SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) revenue is only down 3%. How can one municipality experience almost a three-fold decrease in their share of the total sales tax revenue over the other when their respective shares of sales tax revenue is a fixed percentage of the same total revenue amount? It appears that someone is trying to paint a rosy financial picture to their council, wonder why? Or is it simply that they are not smarter than a fifth grader.

The answer is both. Government in Tyrone will purposely mislead citizens and their knowledge level is very low. Officials will just make up regulations in violations of the law. Seriously, they do it constantly. Often without good reason, which leads me to believe your 5th grade evaluation. You have to double check every word they say. I think that Government has lied to its citizens for so long that they think they can just continue. You can show them an ordinance in black and white and they will interpret it as they choose. Old or new Government, makes no difference.

I would agree on the old one, with the exception of Gloria and Grace. They were out voted 3/2 over and over. Now we have a new group who is closing all loopholes for that kind of BS. No body is going to find out their property has been rezoned without their knowlege.

The new group will read their paper work and make honest decisions for everyone. They are having to pick through the wreckege the last bunch left behind.

You've been right every time, but you're wrong on this one. You'll find out very soon.

Margot,
oldbeachbear is a wise old man (and I use the word "old" loosely).
We'll just wait and see.

SPLOST-DEFINED AS-SPECIAL LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX— COLLECTED COUNTY WIDE-AND REDISTRIBUTED BASED ON A FORMULA AGREED TO BY EACH MUNICIPAL AND COUNTY---- THE AMOUNT OF SPLOST IS DIRECTLY RELATED-TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY-SHOULD YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW HOW SPLOST IS APPLIED TO TYRONE OR PEACHTREE CITY-I WOULD SUGGEST YOU CONTACT EACH TOWN HALL THE FINANCE OFFICER-IN TYRONE THIS CONTACT IS VALERIE CALDWELL. BY THE WAY THIS BUDGET WAS PREPARED BY THE FORMER TOWN MANAGER/FINANCE OFFICER

Contact Valerie....I'm sure she "will have to get back to you on that"... will be your answer

You make a good point TJAM. However, it could very well be PTC Mayor Logsdon is lying on the tax issue again. The guy is a bum.

How can Peachtree City show 8.5% decrease and Tyrone show just 3% ? Maybe the new Tyrone management demands a more accurate accounting of the revenue than the last!

I would be more concerned with the evaluation of inherited staff. Job knowlege and pay go hand in hand most places.
