community septic systems

Someone told me that the county is going to get into maintaining community septic systems. For those of you who don't know what they are, they are just what the name implies. A community out house. Instead of one septic tank for one house, 30/40 have one big septic tank. Sound icky doesn't it? There is a neighbor hood in our area that has one. On a good, or should I say bad, we have smelled it 2 miles away. It has never worked properly.

If its true the county is going to get into not only approving these things but maintaining them, I'm totally against it. In my eyes, it is a way for the developer to stack more houses to an acre where they can't get sewer. In the past the developer has been responsible for them and then later, the homeowners association. If the county takes it over, it would seem our taxes would be paying for this and the developer would be off the hook. I'm not for developer welfare and I think Fayette county is up for sell. Anyone else have any ideas on the subject?
