Walgreens OK’d to replace Ruby TuesdayTue, 02/26/2008 - 4:45pm
By: John Munford
Peachtree City’s Ruby Tuesday restaurant will likely be torn down in 2011 to make way for a Walgreens drug store. Though the redevelopment plans were approved Monday night by the city’s planning commission, they will expire in one year. That means the company will have to re-apply each year to keep the plans current under the city ordinance until the final site plan can be issued before construction begins in 2011. The ploy by United Retail would allow Walgreens to locate directly next door to chief competitor Rite Aid, formerly an Eckerd store. Located at what many consider the heart of Peachtree City at the corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway, the building would be brick with gooseneck lighting features and landscaping at the rear to screen a dumpster and the truck loading area. The building’s size was reduced by 12 feet in length and another 40 feet was added at the rear of the property for landscaping and also possibly a relocation of the cart path. The roof line will be shorter than the Rite Aid’s roof, and the mechanicals on the roof will be screened by a parapet. There will be no alcohol sales at the store, a United spokesperson said. Currently, Rite Aid sells beer and wine by the bottle on premises. login to post comments |
