Peachtree City officials spent Saturday morning grilling four different candidates for the position of police chief.

The City Council, which met for more than 90 minutes in executive session at noon, instructed City Manager Bernie McMullen to continue conducting background checks on all four finalists for the position, said Mayor Harold Logsdon.

Logsdon said he hopes to have council vote to select a chief perhaps as soon as the next council meeting on March 6, though he said that timeframe was not definite yet.

In the meantime, Maj. Mike DuPree has been serving as acting chief. DuPree has been in the position since the resignation of former Chief James Murray.

It is believed that council will look for its next chief to continue with the department's track record for national accreditation. Logsdon has also said he would like to see the department work more drug investigations.

to have an Officer assigned to the DTF? That is definite way long overdue. The next step wills we to build a local narcotics unit along with K-9 in order to fight low-level drug activity which is everywhere...no exaggeration.

harold I would like them to start targeting white collar crime......

you know secret bids on dump sites to help out our crooked developer buddies who are nothing but a waste of clean air and water.

You know the kind of people who take out illegal loans for a tennis center that no one wants or needs.....those kind of white collar crimes. Those kind of people.

I want them to target drunk drivers. Especially if they are crooked city officials!!

harold you and your drunk city manager are a waste of the clean water I need to wash my car and water all of my plants.

Oh now, wait just a minute....alcohol is not a drug! Otherwise we wouldn't have a liquor store on every section of town and umpteen bars!
Not to count umpteen grocery stores with beer and wine. I don't really see how they drink it all.
If you think the PTC police will ever on the face of this earth ever be interested in white collar crime or any business transaction, you need to think about the Braves or something else! Ain't going to happen.

Did I read that right? Logston wants more drug investigations? Excuse me, but since when do parttime politicians tell the Police Dept. how to do their job? I wonder if Logsdon was one of the interviewees today? There is no end to this guy's dangerous little quest for power is there? Will our new Chief of Police be called in to the Mayor's office regularly, too? This is a very dangerous situation coming about...
