Peachtree City officials spent Saturday morning grilling four different candidates for the position of police chief. The City Council, which met for more than 90 minutes in executive session at noon, instructed City Manager Bernie McMullen to continue conducting background checks on all four finalists for the position, said Mayor Harold Logsdon. Logsdon said he hopes to have council vote to select a chief perhaps as soon as the next council meeting on March 6, though he said that timeframe was not definite yet. In the meantime, Maj. Mike DuPree has been serving as acting chief. DuPree has been in the position since the resignation of former Chief James Murray. It is believed that council will look for its next chief to continue with the department's track record for national accreditation. Logsdon has also said he would like to see the department work more drug investigations. login to post comments |
