University of California at Berkeley

The Marine Corps somehow has a recruiting office for new Marines on the campus at Berkeley.

It seems that the University no longer wants them on University property and they have been asked to leave.

It doesn't mean, of course, that the Marines can't open up somewhere off-campus, but they want to be among the students where they can't be totally avoided.

This action was taken by a portion of our National political forces as being unpatriotic.

As far as I know the University has the right and the power to not allow such functions on campus.

There are no statistics available, on the record anyway, as to what results the situation has been as far as signing up Freshmen, etc., or even graduates.
Are they interfering with the educational process there?

As to it being patriotic or not patriotic, I don't see where an office a block away where those who wish can join, is being unpatriotic.
I suppose the KKK, or the NAACP, or Republicans for Eisenhower, could also want an office on campus, but the University needs some control over their educational process.

The ROTC program is a different matter, in that it provides a free education to more learned students, for free, to be officers. I have nothing against that as it is a University function to educate students.

I see the objections to the kick-off campus thing, as political----being for or against the war.

The recruiting office isn't located on the college campus and has absolutely nothing to do with the college. It's the city council of the city of Berkeley that is trying to drive away the recruitment office.Here...it's called GOOGLE, type this in: "Berkeley Marines" and marvel at the wonders of knowledge as opposed to sheer ignorance!

As usual you guys nitpick details when you are wrong. Don't you ever take the time to 2nd and 3rd source the facts (not Google) before you climb a high tree and bellow!

Yes, there is a large Marine office in town, and do you know where many of these guys spend an enormous amount of time during office hours? Now you are not going to tell me that the University has been keeping the Marine "people" off the campus are you? Of course you aren't, you know better.

They spend many, many hours recruiting (by stealth---using other subjects) right on campus and inside buildings!

Do you have any idea of the size of their main office? Of how many recruiters there are there? No, you don't. Ask the University management if you want to know.

This has nothing to do with whether marines can recruit, just be sure you know what happens on a daily basis!

Many of those kids are in trouble in many ways: money. girlfriends, dope, parents, and are vulnerable as a teenager.

You must know that the Army and Marines are desperate for recruits, especially college educated ones.

I don't mind the stupid names from stupid people, but you only build your own reputation!

Here's the stuff you yourself wrote that is 100% wrong:

======

No, they don't.

============
It seems that the University no longer wants them on University property and they have been asked to leave.
============

No, they haven't since they DON'T HAVE AN OFFICE ON CAMPUS.

=========
It doesn't mean, of course, that the Marines can't open up somewhere off-campus, but they want to be among the students where they can't be totally avoided.
=========

Their office is OFF CAMPUS ALREADY.

All the blather about whether there is recruiting going on and who is being recruited has absolutely nothing to do with the totally inaccurate claims you posted.

Come on now, you know you're nitpicker not us. Where is the office on campus? the whole story isn't about an office on campus it's about the office in town. Let me refresh your memory of what you wrote"

Now $ do you deny you wrote that? The campus has nothing to do with the story and you can bend facts and cry nitpicking( BTW when you do cry nitpickers do you answer yourself) but the fact remains you're wrong yet one more time.

This is kind of like the little discussion with "Nutt" yesterday.

Yeah, it is. It's never a good idea to respond to people like nutt and the sage/$$/nitpickers either who seemingly post totally wrong information intentionally to get a reaction. I don't believe anyone is really that stupid, but maybe I'm being optimistic.

As I understand it the recruiting office is in the town of Berkeley not on the campus so making your whole blog moot. BTW if those Arabs start tailgating you just tell them to back off.
