J93.3 wants to move to TyroneMon, 02/25/2008 - 10:32am

The county's only radio station could soon be moving to Tyrone. During Thursday night’s Town Council meeting, Tyrone’s leaders heard a presentation from Wayne Wilkins, who owns the Legacy Theatre building. “It’s actually a radio studio, instead of a transmitting station,” said Wilkins. The studio actually transmits from a location in Meriwether County, so there will be no towers attached to the location. The station is currently in the Publix shopping center in on Ga. Highway 54, just outside the city limits of Peachtree City. “There’s about 15-full-time employees and 12-15 part-time employees,” Wilkins said. Station manager Rick Davidson explained the station was Christian, and offered a positive alternative to much of pop culture. “I support this, and we’re going to try to make this work,” said Councilman Eric Dial. The problem is the Legacy Theatre lies in a C-2 zoning area, which does not allow for a radio station. But Mayor Don Rehwaldt suggested the matter head to the Planning Commission Feb.28 for a full discussion. Davidson said the station would like to move in by July, and Rehwaldt said a decision should be reached by the Town Council in April. login to post comments |
