The cover-up

The last built police station, the one on a dump that molds everything above and around it, is to be re-built on the same spot so as not to embarrass anyone for the original project.

The rebuild will cost more than the original building cost. (without the finance charges of maybe 50%)

It can be built on easy terms however over 20-30 years, thereby not having to ask the citizens for the money. Never mind that the 20-30 years run the cost up 50%.

The quoted bid for a new land and building says the Council and Mayor, may be $6,000,000.00, or thereabouts, if there was a place available....there are many, but the prices just went up, double, due to the situation.

Our officers will never be happy with a "vault" even, built on a chemical dump!

Now the questions are:

Who was the builder? The land approver?
Who was the Architect?
What was their income from the project originally?
How many bids did we get from say,
Albany Georgia, or Columbus? Or anywhere?

Who supplied the concrete and blocks, etc.?

Is there no insurance for such things available?

Who will bid on the new re-build or new structure?

Folks, there simply is no sense in allowing such work to happen in our town, right in front of our noses (either the original building or the rebuild) just to pacify those in power and the favorites!

We built a good station once and should have expanded it (at the library) instead of this junk pile we were sold for a bargain! I know the police wanted away from the public, but tough T!

Is the new library going to fall soon?

I say, junk the trash dump, and either rent a building for the police department or build them a decent one with an approved bond when our income improves, after this current republican recession!

Regardless of the numerous monikers over the past year or so, I must admit that you are correct in your assessment of the Police Department building. No one will answer the questions you posed, nor will anyone be held accountable for the tax monies squandered.

This, to me, is kind of like the old sixties song "Slip Sliding Away" in that no one seems to have the gumption to make a hard decision regarding the direction of our town.

Take for instance the retirement of Chief Murray, would an owner of a company simply not dismiss an executive for conduct that caused embarassment to his organization in a right to work state, I might add. Also, who would expend some one million dollars to repay a shady deal without holding someone accountable.

It seems that those in government whether elected or hired to maintain the public trust are somehow perceived to be above scrutiny or accountability. The two new Councilmen currently are mired up to their necks and seemingly are up against the wall to get any beneficial change accomplished.

So, until the manner in which our city conducts its business changes, I feel that we will continue slide toward just another small town that can only look back upon what once was and what could have been.

If you wait long enough he'll even answer himself.
