Rodney, considering your talent it's no wonder people would oppose to your shop being opened. Sometimes I think that all these narrow-minded people should not be allowed to express their opinions. People are so scared of tattoos and piercings that they even tried to stop the Houston tattoo removal clinic from opening. The locals were afraid that the "bad" kind of people will come there and maybe heist their belongings. Since when a tattooed person is bad? Why do we have to label everything judging by appearance?

You don't read the papers much. The "esteemed" Rodney Pendelton was busted along with his wife for running a weed farm in his home. Or was he was just trying to teach his young children, who also resided there, the fun and profit of having a "victory garden"? Narrow minded--don't think so--just want to keep the undesirables out of our neighborhood.

Submitted by Demun_slayer on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 12:15pm.

Yeah read the papers, they ALWAYS tell the truth, just like TV....NOT! Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? And by the way, if you know so much about it you would know that the charges against his wife were dropped because her and the kids didn't know anything about what was supposedly going on. I don't think stereotyping bigots are considered very "desireable" either, yet they run amuck in "your" neighborhood.

He's sort of tied up with that pesky drug selling charge. Great guy, good businessman, wonderful concept in Peachtree City - he would have made a fortune putting tramp stamps on the teens. We need to overlook the fact that he was a drug dealer and he would be alone with your 15 year old daughter who had her pants pulled down for his needle on her rear. This is not really my idea of what we need in PTC.

If you knew anything about tattoos you would know that in the state of georgia you can't get a tattoo unless you are 18, so there goes your 15 year old with the pants down theory....besides, if your city council gets its way and passes the doctor supervision law like it wants to then they will be able to tattoo on minors in february..the council should take more time to research and pass their ordinances based on fact and law...not bigotry and prejudice....one person getting in trouble for marijuana does not make an entire group of people guilty...guess that bigotry and prejudice doesn't stop at the city council.

When Rodney P was getting ready to open his shop and residents opposed it, he posted how he was just a law-abiding family loving, upstanding citizen living his american dream (0f owning a tattoo parlor) and we were all nasty, hateful people for being opposed to a tattoo parlor. How long was he here before he and his wife were busted for posession, and growing marijuana in the home where they resided with their small children. Great family man, guess the family that tends the garden together, stays together. If Rodney wanted to prove us wrong all he had to do was run a clean and tight ship. What it looks like is that he wanted a place to be able to tattoo and maybe sell a little weed and who knows what else on the side. So we should not be angry that he was bringing this into our neighborhood? If that be prejudice, so be it. Then I am definitely prejudiced.

May I have your permission to ink your avatar on my left buttock?
As far as what you "NEED" in PTC, well let's just say an ink emporium would do you some good.

Where are you from dude? Where did you go to school? Regardless, welcome to 'the bubble' and good luck man.

Almost all of these housewives have tats under their tennis skirts. most of the kids have tats too. Don't be fooled by a few holy-rollers.

This place is WILD man and the kids will love you! You will make a fortune here.

Good luck!

Good entrepreneurial spirit, our community needs people willing to take business risks. With that stated, can you find something less frightening to my social values than tattoos? I find tattoos distateful and demeaning to people, probably because they reflect an art of self-mutilation.

I'm also getting older and less comfortable with change. I foresee your tattoo shop ushering another change in our community with the clientele it serves.

I'm a guy with the same skin I was born with (minus some weathering from a life of refusing to grow up). Even though I don't do tats, I'm a big fan of living in a free country; one that doesn't dictate what art one may or may not put on their body; where and how many new holes one can come up with and hang things on and through. That being said, poor Mr. Doug Tucker sums up this confused and self-conflicting town very well. Your local conservatives will say they like small government and personal freedom, but re read what Mr. Tucker and his like-mindset locals really feel:

"I find tattoos distateful and demeaning to people, probably because they reflect an art of self-mutilation.

I'm also getting older and less comfortable with change. "

Rodney, so that you may remain above the fray, I'll answer Mr. Tucker for you:

Dear Mr. Tucker: Welcome to America, where there are brave men and women out fighting for our rights at this very moment; many of them with tattoos all up and down their arms, legs, backs. Names of their units, their fallen brothers and sisters, phrases that keep them going in the face of death. I can not speak for them, but I will speak for myself: IF YOU FIND TATOOS DISTASTEFUL, DON'T GET ONE! If you don't like change, keep yourself how you are, but you have no right to my body or any one else's who is not your minor child or dependent. I find sansibelts, shorts and black socks distasteful, but feel FREE to keep wearing them.
Rodney, I hope that helps a bit. Best of luck, and if you see a teen aged black girl, 5'6", last name King in your shop, you had best show her the door!

Cheers,

Kevin "Hack" King

That was really a diplomatic, military way to say you don't like tattoos but won't hang anyone who has one except your kids.

Yes some military do sport tattoos. Until recent years they were considered marks of heathens or for i.d of animals.
The Germans made good use of them also in WW2!

It was considered a highly sexual thing in the past---I don't know now.
Young girls now wear them on their butts and breasts, I suppose as a come-on. Janis Joplin started some of that.

I suppose if someone tattooed 666 on their forehead and went to church they might have a problem!

However, I don't recommend arrest for it unless it is pornographic (if you know what that is).

I am a wife of an Iron Man. He has the logo tattooed on his ankle after completing his first event. He wants to look down at it when he is 80 and remember his accomplishments, which I may say, is a huge one. So not everyone who has one is a drug user, hoodlum, thug, or what not.
He has been talking about getting it touched up and I would much rather him go to a shop in PTC than somewhere else.
Good Luck Rodney and I am sure some will welcome your business.

I hope the shop makes it. There are so many women in this town about to hit their mid-life crisis who will get tatoos! Start looking at their ankles (first location) and then their lower backs! First it's the plastic surgery, then the tatoo! Then they are set to turn 40!

Looking at all the piercings, tatto's and other weird body arts while in Orlando, I sure didn't see any signs of our youth curtailing this odd trend.

As an employer, the first thing I've learned is that if someone is sporting tattos during an interview, they aren't worth hiring. Their cognitive abilities, reliability, dependability, and longevity factors aren't typically there with the inked and pierced crowd. Not in my biz anyways.

I can just imagine (maybe I'd rather not) the weird sites that you saw in Orlando. Shocked

Fully agree with your employee assessment. You wouldn't want to stifle these people's individuality -- their self-expression? Laughing out loud

"Pro Choice - On Light Bulbs" -- I'd thought about using that!

"Congress Bans Incandescent Bulbs:
Massive Energy Bill Phases Out Edison's Invention by 2014"

and Pres. Bush signed the 822-page bill. No wonder they have such low approval ratings. If they'd been around 129 years ago, Edison wouldn't have been able to meet all of the EPA, Energy, OSHA, etc. regs. Sad

I've tried fluorescent bulbs and don't like them as well, especially for reading. Not to mention the highly toxic mercury that they contain. And what about the costs of recycling them and cleaning up when one's broken?

I have no use for either.... I have a bucket full of those over priced pieces of junk that I pulled out of our fixtures after making the mistake of buying a bunch. They claim to have a 5 year lifespan that really lasts about 6 months. And when they burn out, the smoke is noxious smelling that it takes hours to ventilate the room. As for me and my family..... We'll hoard the incadescents and them smuggle them in from South America if need be.

Denise, If you want to use the Pro-Choice line have at it. I used one of Paul Perkins lines not long ago.

In regards to the tatoos.... I could really care less. If someone wants to reduce the societal marketability of their future then let them have at it. We will always be in need of those types to fill the demands of such occupations such as garbage men, ditch diggers, and burger flippers. There will always be exceptions to some that have climbed the success ladder, but for most of them.... give them a little age and they'll be branded as losers in a productive society.

I'll say again, just like I did last night...
Every business deserves a chance... If certain residents do not like the type of business, then don't go...
If you didn't like the food at Hooters, don't go there to eat.
We loved the food at Hooters when they were here in F'ville. Just because they are no longer here, doesn't mean we don't eat at another location.
Give the guy a break, who knows, if you were to meet him on the street, not knowing what him business was, would you judge him like this? Most likely not.
Just for the record, I have no idea who he is, just trying to support a small business owner, just like myself.

Just keeping it real...

I know what it's like starting up a business. I'm right in the thick of that right now. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, time, and a passion for the "work".

I think this business owner knows what he/she is up against, and hopes he/she will be a success.

Good luck to "all of us business owners"!!!

Submitted by sageadvice on Fri, 02/22/2008 - 5:33am.

I've never known "luck" to have anything to do with succeeding in business.
A product or service someone wants, good location, sufficient start-up money, line of credit, quality service and goods, helpful employees and management, and of course, know something about business in addition to the product or service, is what it takes.
Even then most fail the first time due to recessions, laws, etc.

I don't recommend that anyone try it without suffering through the learning process with someone else at risk, first!

In those rare cases where even unqualified people make it, luck was not the reason.

Do you know how many good cooks there are who think they can own and run a restaurant? None.
