Tyrone’s Citizens Safe?

In January a new Mayor and Council took over in Tyrone. The first order of business was to fire the Town Manager and hire their person as manager. This change in managers necessitated a reorganization of the Town’s organizational structure. The Council apparently did not have any confidence in their person to effectively manage the police department and it was placed under the direct control of the Mayor. Two months later we have speed traps on SR 74 (great way to generate more revenue) , multiple burglaries of Tyrone businesses, only 2 arrest being reported in the paper for a week, while the Mayor has the Police Chief is working on “The Town Crier”(see this weeks Council agenda). Speeding is a crime and does need to be addressed but not at the expense of the safety of the citizens and their businesses. This new group needs to first focus on what is truly important, the safety of the public and their businesses. Keeping the Police Chief from doing the job he was hired to do by making him work on the Mayor’s pet projects does not protect the public.

Do you think anyone believes your concern about anything in Tyrone other than you lost the election?

If your worry is for saftey, you need to turn all that attention to your job. Delta and Northwest routes have very little overlap so most public contact employees won't be affected. But, there will still be only one home office, so that will mean too many bean counters. I'm sure they will fill those slots with the best.

Since when were you ever concerned about protecting Tyrone businesses? You supported bad zoning which in turn caused and is still causing businesses to lose money and relocate out of Tyrone. All of your blogs are sour grapes on getting stomped in the election. 68% of the citizens voted against you, therefore very few people pay any attention to what you say. In Dixie land where you weren’t born, pack your carpet bag on the next frosty morn and get away, get away get away back up north where you belong.

In Massachusetts where you were born
on a dark cloudy day in a thunderstorm,
get away, get away, get away, back up north.

You came down here with a dirty carpet bag
dragging along that ugly hag
get away, get away, get away, back up north.

Then you ran for office in Tyrone
and made a mess and ruined our home
get away, get away, get away, back up north.

Disgraced by Rehwaldt in your first opposed election,
you’ll never overcome a losers reflection
get away, get away, get away, back up north.

You’re not part of the way we think
your redevelopment ideas are down the sink
get away, get away, get away, back up north.

You and Barry can go together,
and if you take Valerie, it will even be better
get away, get away, get away, back up north.

And when you go, we all will say
good riddance Yankee, Hooray! Hooray!
Look away, look away for a better day in Dixie.

I was born in the South and have lived here all my life. I am retired and during the last election I even supported one of the successful candidates for council. I mistakenly thought that his upbringing would result in someone I could trust. Two years ago I watched Grace and Gloria lie their way into office. This last election it appears that three others followed that same practice. I do not believe that campaign promises should be simple words to get elected but should be commitments by the candidate. If they stray from their commitments I will voice my displeasure, if they put their commitments into action, I will go away. As Thomas Jefferson said “Political dissension is doubtless a less evil than the lethargy of despotism”.

I drive the road twice a day at least 5 times a week, and I've yet to be stopped.

Tyrone speed traps have been well known to Fayette Countians since the 1970s. That's nothing new so I don't think you can blame that on the new government.

I've lived in PTC since 2003, and the Tyrone police have routinely staked out the stretch of 74 just south of the intersection with the Palmetto-Tyrone Rd. You can't really call it a speed trap, because I've gone through at 60+, gotten zapped by the radar gun, and never gotten pulled over. Of course I'm not going 75+, or I would have been nailed.
