PTC getting first tattoo parlor

A businessman is set to open Peachtree City’s first tattoo parlor, called Area 54 Tattoos, in the Peachtree Crossings East shopping center, which also features a Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s.

Rodney Pendleton of Villa Rica is the listed owner of record of the business, according to city records.

Earlier this month the City Council passed a slate of regulations on tattoo parlors in the city, but none of them will immediately affect Area 54 Tattoos. Some will go into effect Feb. 7 of next year and the zoning-related regulations will only apply to Area 54 if it moves from its current location.

By Feb. 7, 2009, the business must all tattooing done by or under the supervision of a licensed physician or osteopath. Also, by that date, the business can only be open between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The city’s new tattoo regulations also require that patrons be provided a private area when they are being worked on, and also that certain health guidelines are met such as having a sink with hot and cold water for artists’ use to clean themselves and their patrons.

The city is also restricting future tattoo parlors to being located only on parcels zoned for light industrial use, which would preclude them from being located in retail shopping centers.

As a resident of this county, who by the way is a mother, honest, hard working, follow the laws, tax paying, etc... citizen, who happens to have 3 fairly small, tasteful tattoo's, I say as long as they follow ALL of the rules, keep all materials clean, let them open a business. They need to make a living as well.

Please don't continue to sterio-type a business, just because you may not agree with the type of business it is. If I ever decide to get another one, driving to PTC will be a heck of a lot closer than driving to Fla where I got my other one's done. I'll save on gas money!
I wish them success with their business venture. Like I said, we all make a living one way or another.

I am a little baffled as to why everyone has their undies in a bunch over a TAT shop! If you don't want ink don't go there. What is so hard about that? A Tattoo Shop is not going to bring the scurge of the State to your dorrstep, does the Package stores that are only in PTC bring them? I for one am the Mom of a United States Marines and another in the Navy. They both have ink as do I and plan more, why do you care what I put on my body? I do not run around in a little tennis skirt and show the world what I choose to have forever as a part of me (and no it is not a tramp stamp)!. I can't wait for this shop to open and I will be there with cash in hand a car load of Marines will follow upon returning home. Please people use this energy you are wasting being mean and nasty to do good somewhere (you might like it). This man and his brother are trying to make living just like you and me and they deserve to do so, this is the US is it not. Would you care if these men where going to open another Nail Shop? at least a Tat Shop has standards to keep and fresh ink and new needles for everyone not the same clipper and file you get at the nail place. And by the way there is a new massage palor in South Fayette by the new Publix where were you folks then.

KJAM: I agree, if they want to open a business, follow all applicable laws, bravo! Great to see the PTC Wives Club gets their thongs in a wad over something as trivial as this. Interested to see how many of them sneak out after a night at the Red Room or Hanger 54 and get a lil work done? OBTW you sound hot, MILF Mom with three tat’s who got them in Florida, my kind of girl! Macintosh High School Sprit Night, 50% off Tramp Stamps with an intimate body piercing!!

Honestly, a tattoo shop could not possibly be any worse than the numerous filthy nail salons here in PTC. Tattooist wear gloves and take so many precautions where cleanliness and hygine are concerned. Maybe people here are more worried about the clientele, and not the actual work being done there. I've been here 14 years, and I'd much rather have a small business that follows the zoning laws and restrictions than to have another big box that bullied it's way into the city and is forced on us by the idiots someone else elected.

And another thing...there was a massage parlor in town, does anyone remember how long it lasted? Not long, but it was granted a business license in the first place...this town is so retarded sometimes.

What's next, a "massage" parlor?

What is wrong with a tattoo parlor? I know plenty of respectable people with tattoos. You're not the sort of person who would judge based on appearance are you?

I think you are overreacting. Let the market decide whether or not a tattoo parlor is a good or bad idea.

Submitted by sageadvice on Wed, 02/20/2008 - 2:07pm.

Market decisions made by oil companies, drug companies, hospitals, and so forth, aren't always the best for the consumer!

Libertarian thinking is NEVER going to make it with people.

I don't think you can accurately compare a tattoo parlor to a big oil company or insurance company. Sure, we are paying $3 a gallon for gas while the oil companies rake in large profits, but as consumers we don't have much control over that. We have evolved into a society which is so dependent on petroleum that we cannot simply boycott oil companies when we think that gas is over priced. The same thing goes for prescription drugs and health care.

If I don't want a tattoo, I simply won't go. If enough people feel that way then the parlor will not be able to meet its financial obligations and it will close.

Used gasoline? used for what? and what's left afterward? There's nothing on your list that has to be used.

What does any of that have to do with tattoos?

We have massage parlors now! They are called Spas!
Where are the young women in PTC going to get their butterfly on their lower hip if not here in PTC?

Submitted by PTC Avenger on Tue, 02/19/2008 - 8:38pm.

Those four elevated markings around the word massage are called quotation marks. I'm very aware that we have legitimate massage spas throughout the city, keyword being legitimate.

But I have no problems with a tattoo shop, if that floats your boat, I say go for it.

Not long ago the good citizens of PTC were all in arms about a Goodwill store -- so much so that they managed to stop its opening. It appears we are not nearly so averse to what was once considered a mark of lower class. Just another sign of the times!!

Submitted by Spyglass on Tue, 02/26/2008 - 2:44pm.

One, Goodwill, was going to be the anchor of a shopping center in the center of town. I've seen the way centers look that have Goodwill's in them. Plus, we were losing a pretty nice grocery store.

The Tattoo place will be in a very small spot more toward the end of the other center, and will hardly even be heard from, much be seen.

...albeit not the type of people PTC would like to recognize as members of their fair town. The Tattoo shop and Red Room are much more serviceable to the changing moral and ethical climate of the good folks in PTC and the country as a whole. By the way, did you see footage taken in the restroom at the Red Room on a recent episode of "Intervention"?

no, haven't seen it. Could you locate it (youtube?) and post the link here?

Intervention is an A&E show which documents the lives of drug addicts and the impact their addiction has upon their families and friends. This particular episode involved a brother and sister in their early twenties who were each fighting drug and alcohol abuse. The scene in the restroom was of a night of partying and graphically depicted drug use. There was an outside shot of the Red Room which was instantly recognizable and a reference to the brother living in a home in Hapeville. I was not able to ascertain which neighborhood they lived in from the footage, but the Red Room immediately placed the setting in PTC. Check it out sometime -- Season 4, Episode 24.

But I stand by my comment about what Goodwill would have done to the good business's of that center. From what I saw, ALL of the locally owned business's in that center came out strong against the Goodwill locating there, that's enough for me.

Just like Kohls and other big boxes, it's not too much to ask to drive to Newnan etc for these needs.

And no, I wouldn't even know where to look for the show "Intervention".

I've seen a few live bands in the Red Room though, and found it fine in those limited times I've been in there.
