Citizens of Peachtree City, it is clear our mandate for change is not complete. While we have spoken clearly with the additions of Haddix and Sturbaum, our efforts are still incomplete. I was hopeful this would have been enough to counter the stupidity of Logsdon and Boone in their ever continuing effort to cater to development. I did not think Ms. Plunkett would flip and become part of the problem. It is clear she did not understand the message. Very soon, we will again have the opportunity to make the necessary corrections and flex our power by vote. Logsdon and Boone are in our sights, and we will remove them. Ms. Plunkett, this is a message you should take heed to. If you continue down this path of ideas, which runs counter to the best interest of this great city, you will also be removed along with Logsdon and Boone. The only votes you will get next time will be from the few residents of Planterra who have been pushing for the big box development because it serves their interests and not the interests of the entire city. To Haddix and Sturbaum: Keep up the good work. It won’t be long until we will be able to assist you by placing individuals who also understand and represent what all citizens really want for our great city. - - - - - - - - - - - Baseball is right around the corner, so a baseball analogy is in order: The people of Peachtree City got plunked by Plunkett. - - - - - - - - - - - In the process of trying to prevent big boxes in Peachtree City, I see that the city council has now voted to give us three new big boxes. I think at the next council meeting that Cyndi Plunkett should make a motion to name these new big boxes. How about the Logsdon Building, the Boone Building and, of course, the Plunkett Building. I also have a new campaign slogan for Councilwoman Plunkett: “Let’s reelect big box Cyndi!” Thank you to council members Haddix and Sturbaum for trying to stop this mess. You have the community’s support. - - - - - - - - - - - What happened to the idea of building a Whole Foods Market? It would be more practical than a Kohl’s which has the same generic items in every store. I personally have not found anything suitable to wear in the Newnan or the Fayetteville stores. The small petite clothes do not seem to be appropriately sized and will fit a much larger and taller person. In my opinion, the women’s clothes are also old-fashioned. Would the Whole Foods Market create too much competition with other grocery stores in the area? Does PTC meet the income, education, healthy eating patterns or high traffic requirements for locating a store in this area? Or perhaps the developer already has a contract with Kohl’s. A rectangular chain clothing store would be more economical to build than a building requiring refrigeration and cooking facilities. In all fairness PTC does need the tax revenue, and perhaps we could use a few clothing stores in that location; however, I don’t feel Kohl’s is the right store. - - - - - - - - - - - I can’t imagine why Mayor Logsdon and the two others sold us out to a cruddy developer. Does the city even care about what the majority of homeowners say anymore? I can tell you one thing, we’re tired of getting rolled over on these bad development deals. We all knew something was going to be built on that land but we didn’t want city property given away or big box stores. I think Osama Bin Laden could handily beat Mayor Logsdon in an election after all of the bad things he’s done. - - - - - - - - - - - Mr. Logsdon, Mrs. Plunkett and Mr. Boone appear to suffer from deafness. Apparently they weren’t paying attention to the voting results last November. The message here is those three should never be elected to any post ever again. - - - - - - - - - - - A traffic signal at the Crosstown/Parkway intersection? What a bone-head, money-wasting crock of male cow fodder that is. It wouldn’t be necessary if the horde of arrogant and ignorant drivers just used a little common sense, courtesy, and intelligence. I travel that intersection and McIntosh several times a day and witness a plethora of stupidity: People on cell phones not paying attention to the point they don’t know when it’s their time to go or blast right through without stopping, people turning left in front of through traffic, left turns and through traffic cutting off right-turning vehicles, and people that just don’t know how to keep it flowing. It doesn’t take a professor of physics to figure out how to work a multi-lane four-way stop or a dumb government flunky to come up with an expensive solution. The most economical fix is education. Okay, here it is, ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages: Vehicles turning left when facing through traffic turn behind the vehicle traveling through, not in front. Straight goes first, you turn behind them after they pass. Left turns yield to through traffic for safety reasons. Do you want to get T-boned? Right turning traffic gets a turn to go after they have stopped to yield. Just because they have to yield to a vehicle already in the intersection doesn’t mean they have to sit there forever waiting on the constant flow of left turners and cross traffic that won’t give the courtesy to pause long enough to allow them to go. I constantly have to cut you people off so I’m not late for my coffee. Once a vehicle stops to yield, they are then under the same four-way rules as if there were no yield sign. Left turns yield to right turns, which means the right goes first, before another one of you jump into the intersection before the one ahead of you, that the right has yielded to, has made it through. You folks really chap my buttocks. Also, if two cars stop side by side going through, but one was there a little ahead of the other, they should both go simultaneously instead of waiting until the first one gets through before starting across. All you are doing is causing flow delays and backing up traffic. We can’t go as long as the first guy has the intersection blocked, so you’re safe. Lastly, the most fundamental thing anyone can do is pay attention and remember the same basic highway rules apply to a four-way stop where left yields to through AND right-turning traffic. And for the love of freedom, liberty, apple pie and all things holy, pull your craniums out of your backsides and be courteous. - - - - - - - - - - - You have to admire a politician who doesn’t care about appearing blatantly hypocritical. We have one locally here in Peachtree City who is apparently very focused on respect for one’s body. Nothing quite as disrespectful to one’s body as a tattoo, says he. We just have to hope he isn’t saying it while sitting at the smoke-filled Y-Knot swilling beer, telling vulgar jokes and using racial epithets. No, those things are apparently just fine with the ideology of respecting one’s body. We can only wonder where he stands on the issue of ear-piercing and hair-dying. - - - - - - - - - - - Where has good sense gone? Walgreens wants to build a drugstore next to an existing drug store after demolishing a newly-remodeled, popular Ruby Tuesdays. Say it isn’t so. - - - - - - - - - - - Come on, already. Don’t spend any more money on the pile of junk building that may never be right. Surley a new building can be found in PTC that will not have the potential problems that the existing building may continue to have. I don’t believe that a new police building has to cost in excess of $5 million as reported. For that much money, we can hire three shifts to guard the “evidence room” that is reported to add to the costs. Stop, already, and think about it. - - - - - - - - - - - Ladies and gentlemen, who are we to judge what goes on behind closed doors? The United States, after all, is supposed to be the land of the free. It’s unfortunate that our society publicly humiliates a good person because they decided to have a “party” in the privacy of her own home. A person who has sworn to protect and serve our community, which by the way she does better than most. Before throwing stones - - - - - - - - - - - Now I know why ol’ Jimmy left Peachtree City with little fanfare. I knew something was up when the city didn’t have a retirement send-off like they do for other retirees. [Chief Murray] wouldn’t skip out on a chance to jump on his pedestal and let everyone tell him how great he is/was, but now we know. I see that his house is for sale and he has already skipped town; good riddance. I have lived here long enough to remember that Jim was given three choices for locations of his police department and he chose the current location, so he is to blamed for this fiasco, too. I also remember when Jimmy took over the PCPD, he wanted his picks as officers and he ran off or got rid of the officers that were on staff. I hope that the new police chief does the same thing, because there are a bunch down there that need running out of town, and it needs to start with a major and a captain. In my opinion, they all three came from the same pod. I do hope that the City Council has the insight to choose a chief from another jurisdiction and not an applicant from the current PD staff, if that applies. If walls could talk. - - - - - - - - - - - To the parent who complained about the Peachtree City Police “bullying” your children to tears because you didn’t know the laws and they were not obeying them when driving a golf cart: I say, it’s just too easy for you to know the laws and teach them to your children. You purchased the cart, you paid for the permit, you — I know — were given rules and regulations handed to you when you purchased your permit. I am so tired of these spoiled brats cutting people off, driving where they should not, under aged with seven or eight kids riding around with nothing to do. Tell them to get a job, do some community service. If they are 12 and 17, there is plenty they could be doing. It should be against the law for any youth without a driver’s license to be behind the wheel of a golf cart, and I will always wonder where the brains of people are who allow children to drive, supervised or not. - - - - - - - - - - - To the severely handicapped person who wrote the article about “only minorities found parking illegally in handicap, when they don’t have handicap hangers or tags.” Just to show you where your ignorance lies, let me explain a simple factor to you. I’m a 45-year-old, 18-year Fayette County resident. Oh, yeah, before I forget — I’m black, brown or whatever you’d like to call me, as you would say (minority). In 2003 I was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus & rheumatoid arthritis. I too park in the handicapped spot such as yourself, and sometimes cannot find available parking. Needless to say there are days when I’m feeling great going into the store; however, once inside, the continuous walking will wear me down or cause me to hobble or limp to my parked handicapped vehicle. I might just be in severe pain after shopping. If you are anyone else saw me in person, you would not think that I would have a handicapped hanger. Appearances could fool a lot of people like you, the simple minded. How dare you play race as a contributing factor for parking illegally in handicapped spots? I’ve been approached by both Fayetteville Police and old white folks cursing me out or shaking their heads at me, assuming that I’m not legit. However, just think how embarrassed the police officer was when he saw that the name on the hanger and the driver’s license was indeed me. Wow, how he apologized. Just because a person hops, skips, crawls, or dances to their car doesn’t mean that they are not handicapped. Use your head. You don’t always need a wheelchair or walker to be considered handicapped. Why don’t you get a job policing handicapped parking? I sympathize with you and most times will give up parking in handicapped, if I’m having a good health day. But remember, just because this is what I would do, does not mean that others will do the same. As long as someone has a hanger or tag, they can park in handicapped all day. Sorry you’re offended and so very sorry that you think that only the minority park illegally. - - - - - - - - - - - I inquired at the City recently about recycling glass. I simply can`t believe we do not have a place for that. She informed me that it was not profitable. Why do we have to make a profit? The profit should be to keep it out of the landfill. And how come only #1 and #2 plastics? It would also help to have more locations throughout the city, since the recycling center has such limited hours. On McIntosh Trail they do not exempt everything, so you have to make two trips. Make it easy to recycle. - - - - - - - - - - - I would like to suggest to the Fayetteville Fire Department that the next time they want to eat lunch at Larry’s Giant Sub that they take just one fire truck instead of two. That way they won’t be wasting taxpayers’ money on gas and they won’t have to park one of the trucks on East Georgia Avenue and block traffic coming off Ga. Highway 85. - - - - - - - - - - - This letter is to the people who were at the Monday meeting of the Board of Education. I am an East Fayette parent who attended the meeting. I have attended two or three redistricting meetings in December. I understand the issues Mr. VanHoozer presented on Monday night, all very good points along with a plan. However, in this case, I think less is more would have been prudent. Your case could have been presented in the three-minute guideline. That goes the same for most of the other speakers asking for the board to change school boundaries who went over the time limit. This hearing is for everyone, that is why the guidelines on speaking were given. East Fayette parents/teachers are just as emotional, confused and concerned as the rest of you during this difficult redistricting process. - - - - - - - - - - - Get ready, Board of Education, here they come. Stand your ground. Don’t give in and don’t let the “playing the race card” back you down. It’s been announced: as of Sept. 1, 2008, Clayton County schools will lose their accreditation and the first comment made by the parents was, “We are going to have to get our kids in another school district.” Not this one! You made your bed, you voted your people in, now you need to deal with it and keep your kids out of our schools. - - - - - - - - - - - Hey, Fayette County School Board. A writer in Free Speech gave me an idea for a great new solution to help you determine which schools are actually overcrowded. Serve them all muffins and see who runs out first. - - - - - - - - - - - To piggyback on left lane cruisers: Yes, I see them all the time blocking the passing lane so that no one can pass. Once I finally wedge my way around them, I usually see them with a cell phone attached to their heads, totally unaware of the traffic mess they’ve created in their wake. These people probably got their drivers’ licenses out of a CrackerJack box. Too bad our license bureau doesn’t emphasize “drive right, pass left.” It would sure help our traffic situation. - - - - - - - - - - - I have played on the same basketball team for the Fayette County Recreation Department for the past several years. My team has to pay good money to sign up. Part of that money goes to pay the referees. I don’t know where we are finding these guys at, but we need to look somewhere else. What we have are a bunch of Barney Fifes running around in black and white shirts blowing whistles who don’t really know what they are doing. Come on, Fayette County, we can find better refs to pay than this. - - - - - - - - - - - Can someone guess what other numbers have risen proportionately with the crime rate in north Fayetteville? - - - - - - - - - - - Wouldn’t it be nice if the kids who got academic scholarships got their pictures in the paper too? - - - - - - - - - - - After watching SMHS boys basketball, I have to ask, isn’t there anyone else who is willing to coach these boys? They work very hard and deserve better. - - - - - - - - - - - Can anyone explain to me how the officials in PTC only apply for and get the permit to build the golf cart bridge next to Ga. Highway 54 West, but NOT apply for and get a permit for the approach paths to the bridge at the same time? What would happen if the approach paths permit is denied? We then have the dubious distinction of having a nice bridge with no way to get to it. Great thinking and superb planning. - - - - - - - - - - - How can we make folks understand the Timberlake golf cart path is on private property? We are talking about the path that runs by Timber Lake, the path by the lake. This path was paid for solely by Timberlake residents. The paths in PTC or even the Highgrove path that connects to our Redwine entrance are on public lands. Our path is private. For this reason our residents are liable for any incident or accident on our path or recreation areas. All other arguments fail to grasp this. Liability is different for public golf cart paths than for private golf cart paths. We choose not to be liable for non-Timberlake users. Would you? Instead of fighting us, why not join us as we campaign to have Fayette County build a golf cart path down Peachtree Parkway all the way to Redwine. Maybe the developers of Highgrove, Whitewater Creek and Newhaven can share in the expense. It seems only fair since they dishonestly advertised those areas were connected to PTC paths to begin with. Maybe the homeowners associations of those subdivisions could carry their own weight and help us as well. - - - - - - - - - - - Who wrote that Timberlake is showing their backsides? I’ve never seen their gates locked in the two years I’ve lived here, so I question your motive. Are you just trying to antagonize them and make them mad? In the same time it took to send in your snide comments, you could have thanked them for their hospitality instead. I live nearby and appreciate Timberlake’s willingness to work with the community. You seem to be someone who likes to stir things up. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us. Before pointing out anyone else’s backsides, you might want to pull up your own britches. The view from here ain’t pretty. login to post comments |
