Sheriff

We need a professional county police force.
Sheriffs are for warrants, jails, court houses, and arresting crooked town officials.
Should we elect the head of the State Police? No!
Should we elect the head of the GBI? No!
Police need to be free of politics.

We Could Use a County Police Department, its about time, but until then, the Sheriff’s Department and the rank and file deputies are doing just fine!

Sage you are the most uninformed individual if you believe that “Police need to be free of politics” you have never put on a badge, or strapped on a gun in your life. There will always be politics in connection with the enforcement of laws and carrying out the duties of the position regardless of the title, sheriff, police, et al. From the patrolman on the street to the chief executive officer, politics will always be present. It’s when politics interfere with the administration of justice, or employees begin to believe that the laws do not apply to them, or that they are just plain above the law (Bruce), that is the breeding ground for corruption and results in a loss of professionalism and respect from your citizenry / customers.

This will be an important issue in the upcoming election. I really do not care who the deputies want as sheriff, as long as the person elected has the experience (not street cop experience) but executive level experience where he or she can multi-task and has experience with personnel issues, budgeting, ethics, and yes political experience to know when to fight, when to shut up and when to cut losses.

I think Barry Babb will one day possess these traits, and I hope Wayne does a better job once sheriff in grooming a potential replacement (Not Woody) as everyone is replaceable. Wayne Hannah has the experience and the executive skills necessary to make this happen. No one else at the department is even close to being ready to perform at that executive level. I could just see the other guy running at the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Meetings, and everyone wondering, is he the best we can elect?

We owe it to Randall to elect someone who can carry the department forward in a manner that will improve on professionalism and return to good old fashion customer service.

“Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
George Orwell

Randall needs to help us, and endorse someone .....it is very hard for me to decide between Hannah, or Babb. From the outside looking in they both look good.

Stop picking on Bruce. We all owe Bruce a big thank you....not just him, but every other deputy as well. Everyone has their good and bad points. Bruce was notoriously tough on crime and criminals....which we all need to be grateful for. He may have stumbled, but he has kept us all safe, because he was so tough on crime.

I don’t believe, and I may be wrong, but Randall will not endorse anyone! I agree and support every Fayette County Deputy and thank them for their service, but Bruce was a tyrant. He got want what he deserved, and I don’t have anything against his dedication and crime fighting, but his methods did not in most cases justify the means. I believe in the rule of law, Bruce did not. He made a lot of cases, and did a lot of good, and might have been the next sheriff, but in my opinion, the single most important step towards professionalism was the day he turned in his stuff. Tough on crime is a good thing, but YOU MUST play by the rules each and every time. I wish he would have seen the error of his ways and made some drastic personnel changes; he might have been a great sheriff.

By the way, I am supporting Wayne, I know all the down side, and I like and respect Barry, If Barry Wins, I have no heartburn either, but I am 100% opposed to Mindar for Sheriff, but that’s another blog!

Just a quick note about your signature...George Orwell never said "Good people.."
The author is anonymous.

Rightwing hatemongerette Michelle Malkin continually attributes that quote to Orwell.

Never Read a Michelle Malkin peice, and drive on my friend,

Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. do we need to now get down and pray 5 times a day because I misquoted. I hope you enjoy the new world, because I believe that he may just get elected, and what a tragic mistake that will be for our fight against extremist.

First 9/11 next a president named Hussein, upside is that there will be no pork in the budget?

Umm check with the FBI about corruption and police depts. ....get back to us on that.

Check out New York, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, and Detroit.....google search corrution, dirty cops, cops on the take.....

Even with the small flap at our small city police dept. they had to call in the Sheriffs Dept. to help resolve it.

How many more Katheryn Johnsons do we need....???(you know the innocent 92yr old lady who was killed by dirty cops on the take) Go ahead tell us....how many more innocent bodies do we need laying around because of corruption??

Our Sheriff's Dept. is tough on crime, that is what you hate about them isn't it??

Would the police go easier on you and all of your personalities??

Police depts are also tied to politics.....look at how our corrupt city councils handle or mishandle our police depts.

Speaking of corruption, the police have no more than do sheriff's departments. Remember the Colonel fiasco, and others?
A supervisor of a police force can fire a cop--try firing the sheriff?
Just need to hire a top-notch supervisor--who also can be fired.

Then tell me again how wildly successful county police helping a sheriff's dept. is. Live in Atlanta, or clayton county for a month. Then you can give us a report on what it is like to live in a place where the cops are always being investigated by the FBI. I'll give you a hint though.....always keep your doors locked and your security alarm armed, or you won't come back at all.

I bet you are sitting in your home typing away with your doors unlocked,(?) and you are perfectly safe. The only reason you can do that is because of the good work of all of our law enforcement here.

The Sheriff of a county does have a lot of power, that is why it will be important to vote wisely in July. It will be a tough decision between Hannah and Babb. Whoever Sheriff Johnson endorses will probably win.

Ps: A sheriff can be recalled, the I team just did an investigation a month or 2 ago of the sheriff of Newton county I think. He wasn't showing up to the office, he wasn't patrolling, he wasn't doing anything he should have been doing.

Who is the sheriff of Clayton County?

Submitted by skyspy on Tue, 02/19/2008 - 9:48am.

victor-fire-all-the-white-people hill.

You can read about him in the ajc. today, he just racked up another federal lawsuit. Even Eldren Bell has some negative things to say about him today, and Atlanta PD had it's own share of problems under his "leadership" (?). It brings to mind that whole pot/kettle thing.
