Former NFL player pleads to biting Fayetteville officerThu, 02/14/2008 - 1:41pm

A former NFL player pled guilty today to one felony count of obstructing a police officer for biting a Fayetteville police officer and running into a house to avoid several officers who were trying to arrest him in February 2006. Adam "Pacman" Jones, whose legal troubles outside Georgia have resulted in national news headlines, was sentenced to three years probation and a $500 fine by Superior Court Judge Paschal A. English Jr. English denied Jones' request to be sentenced as a first offender, which would have allowed the offense to be removed from his criminal record had he successfully completed probation. The incident occurred after police were checking out a Bentley vehicle that was parked off the side of the road in front of Jones' girlfriend's house. When an officer smelled marijuana coming from the car he ordered all those involved to stay at the car but they instead left and went inside the house, said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard. Jones eventually came back outside and bit one of the officers on the hand between his thumb and index finger as he was being arrested, Ballard said. The probation case will be transferred back to Tennessee where Jones now lives, Ballard said. login to post comments |
