Tyrone is not Mayberry anymoreFor the past several years Tyrone has been referred to as Mayberry complete with Aunt Bee as Mayor, Barney as Manager, and Thelma Lou as his assistant. Well Tyrone is no longer Mayberry. The latest election has brought the winds of change (or the carpetbaggers) to transform Tyrone from a small friendly place to “the Land of Oz” complete with all its characters. On council you have: Gloria “Toto” Furr (makes a lot of noise but does what she is told); Grace “the wicked witch of the west” Caldwell (always wanting to wear the Mayors ruby red slippers); Don “the if I had a brain scarecrow” Rehwaldt (enough said); Eric “the cowardly lion” Dial (can not take a stand for anything); (all due respect to Tracy Young, really did not want to leave you out but since you represent those living in unincorporated Fayette County (yes we know where your relatives live) there wasn’t an Oz character for you). They show up at council meetings with their winkies (a.k.a. tyrone neighborhood alliance) in tow chanting “you are great”. When problems arise Grace summons Judy J. “Nikko, King of the flying animals” (check the movie out for a more accurate description of the animals) to attack those that have incurred her wrath. Lastly of course we have Bill “the Mighty Oz” McNally who is always behind the curtain pulling the strings. One would have to wonder how long before a yellow brick road is added to Shamrock Park?
