MR. AND MRS. MUDDLE- THIS IS JUST FOR YOU

BPR's picture

I have been praying all day- I asked God to give me a song to speak to you-

Years ago, this person singing this song huge Christian Artist died- well he wasn't wearing his seat belt, was in a jeep with the hood off, a truck hit them, and then a huge truck ran over him.

He was only around 40 years old, could write and sing such songs that had you weeping- I knew God was speaking through him.

Anyway I said to my husband who did a tribute at the radio station he was at, I was a little surprised- I said Mr. BPR what is your favorite songs of his.
He said "Hold Me Jesus"- Muddle this is for you- I know it.

When I first heard of this death- my first thought he's in heaven singing "
Awesome God"

This what I think Rich is singing in heaven now.

I've had him on my list and will continue. Thank you for your comments, I really did pray and I thank God that it was His choosing, wow- Muddle knowing Rich Mullins- That really is a God thing. Mrs. Muddle liking the songs- a God thing. God is good. I am still praying for them.

I know it may seem strange but to me a song sometime is like a sermon put to music to speak to me- it's God speaking to me. God knows how much I love music-

I do feel sad for certain people on here, I pray for them-

The whole thing is you can disagree and still get along. Thank you for being kind to the Muddles.

I let the Rich Mullins play for Lynn.

She's always appreciated his stuff--particularly two of the ones you chose: "Hold Me" and "Sometimes the Night."

He was a real character. Quite a non-conformist, often, say, going barefoot while performing, seldom bothering with a haircut. He resisted pressure to conform to the whole Nashville thing.

He was a student of one of my colleagues at a college in another state before that colleague came here. They became close friends (enough that my colleague spoke at his funeral). He would sometimes turn up at our college here to sit in on his friend's classes. Unfortunately, he died within a month or two of my starting to teach here in 1997. I would have loved to have met him. In fact, my colleague once observed that Rich and I had much in common in our non-conformism!

He was a huge fan of the writings of G.K. Chesterton, as am I.

His death was a tragedy. What, though, was he thinking traveling on an interstate in an open vehicle while wearing no restraint? Indeed, those might have been the first words he heard as he approachde The Gate: "What Were You Thinking?!" (with a Dr. Phil voice and accent). Smiling

How is Mrs. Muddle, are you at home now? Has your daughter lived in Asheville long. I lived there 20 years, got married- and haven't lived there since.

It is different, you have two different types of people the mountain folks, the rich folks, it seems not much in between. It is expensive to live there, which is sad alot of the pay is not what you would get here. I don't know how people do it- I don't think it has always been that way- Asheville kinda turned into a tourist attratction, Biltmore House, etc. people have summer homes just for the mountain view.

Sometimes when I go to purchase something it seems it costs more there than here.

We did live in Weaverville for a long time- just down the road, ha, then we moved to Asheville. My sister and Dad lives in Asheville, my brother, Mars Hill- in the mountains- he loves that kind of life- your neighbor does not live on top of you.

I do go visit time to time, it's hard with my Mom and other Sister not being there- but I love all the rest of them- I have to go.

So, do you and your wife like Asheville?

Michael Card would I read he would go to his cabin and no t.v., radio, anything, fireplace of course and write songs and books, I have a few of his books- he's alot like you- just like Rich. That is a good thing- I admire these guys! Both had unique voices like none other- God given.

My daughter and her family live in Weaverville, just north of town. It's a great location with great public schools. They are on a street just off of the small downtown, so they can walk to school, the bakery, etc. Very nice.

We love Asheville and several other surrounding communities, including Waynesville. I would move to the area tomorrow if I could. (Just as my daughter was moving there a couple of years ago, it occurred to me to go online and see what colleges are in the area. Turned out that Montreat College had a job opening with a descrioption that matched exactly what I do. I got pretty excited, and shot an email to them. They were already at the end of their candidate search and were waiting on a candidate to accept their offer. Bummer. I would be there now. I hear that the Montreat area in particular is gorgeous, including the campus.)

Asheville has a very large hippie factor. We've always gotten along well with twenty-something hippie types (a sign that has been on our front door for nearly ten years reads: "Hippies Use Side Door" and we our home is referred to as "Hippie Headquarters"). Asheville's downtown has a lot to offer, and then there are those spectacular mountians.

Was this a God thing- wow- how great He is. I really did pray and I believe God gave me those songs. So. yeah God!

Rich was a character, my husband and myself met him once, I think my conversation was hi,Smiling my husband had to interview, do liners for the radio, etc. with him- real fast paced, other stations in line to do the same thing.

I remember in Nashville at the Dove Convention we saw him at the hotel, with his truck with his two labs in the back of his truck-this truck was a plain truck- it had been used. I was going to pet the dogs but he left before I got there. I thought that was a hoot to have his dogs in the back of his truck in downtown Nashville.

Give Mrs. Muddle a huge bear hug for me. Let her know how many are praying for her. Tell her to get better soon, I want to meet her. Hey, we may talk all day and night about these people in music.

I do miss Rich, I thought the same thing- what were you thinking- from what I understand it was out in the country sorta where you would not expect alot of traffic.

He was a scruffy guy- not married- he could have been I am sure. He was just plain and simple. I know he had a CD cover one time and he had his dog on it with him. I said Mr. BPR when I make my CD I am going to put all my cats on it.Smiling

I will pray without ceasing.

I found some of the text of my friend's eulogy for Rich Mullins over ten years ago. I'm impressed!

"There's a Ragamuffin loose in heaven. There are bare feet on the streets of gold. And I tell you heaven will never be the same. The restless pilgrim who once wept as a man who is longing to go home is finally there. He is at last set free to compose that music which he once called 'higher than the songs that I can sing'. Well you can sing them now Rich. So sing them. Sing them well, sing them loud, let the hammer dulcimer be heard all over heaven. Let heaven's choir sing their praise to the Lord. And as you look back, and watch the stars as they fade to the flicker of a candle, let angels above join with the saints below, and declare to the world - our God is an awesome God!"

Rich's band was called the Ragamuffin band, in fact the driver was in the band, he lived, this guy struggled why he lived and Rich died.
My heart went out to him.

Yes, there's a Ragamuffin on the loose in heaven, and this time I will say more than hi!Smiling

I"m praying without ceasing.
