PRESERVE OUR QUIET, SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD

You may not know that the West side of the Fayette By-Pass is proposed to cross Hwy 54 (at Huiet Rd., next to the BP station), go through the Cat Care Veterinary Clinic, come behind the hospital, cross the south end of the Rivers farm and enter Sandy Creek Road less than a mile from Rt. 54. The purpose is to divert traffic from the southern part of the county away from Hwy 74 and GA Hwy 85. This will, no doubt, change the quality of living along Sandy Creek Rd. in terms of noise and safety. We may, collectively, be able to get the Board of Commissioners to change this proposed route.
If you are concerned and interested in participating, please have your acquaintances, who are Fayette County residents, email me, for more information.
If we get enough participation, we will be able appear before the Board of Commissioners to let them know of our objection. Marilyn

I remember that the Planning Map at the time of the SPLOST showed the bypass cutting south of the hospital then conituing across to the area on Lester Rd. Since that time several major buildings and developments, including the new middle school on Lester have come up. So as predicted at that time, the road has shifted even farther south.

I would argue that the Sandy Creek end of the bypass is unneeded since the Tyrone Bypass at the other end was deleted from the plan. I argued at the time that Tyrone Rd. was the better selection for a East-West main road since it does not cross the railroad anywhere between Hwy 74 and Hwy 54. Even the URS studies showed that the rail crossing on Sandy Creek was going to be a major traffic constriction in using it as the east-west corridor.

So I would start attacking the project's technical merit to show that it will have little to no positive impact on the east-west traffic flows. Stay away from the property rights discussion and other arguements. That's how we killed the Tyrone Bypass.

So go the the county and get the URS study and have an engineer start ripping it up. Belive me, its not hard to find flaws in it. I did.

This is just great. Not to mention the Rivers Elementary School that is going to be built on the corner of my street! Does anybody know if they are planning to pave Tillman Road? We don't want it paved! There's a reason we moved here in the first place. It was quiet and in the country. If it gets paved, I'll get mowed down by all the cars and school buses while trying to check my mailbox! And where's all the wildlife supposed to go? We have herds of deer, not to mention raccoons, fox, and coyotes. Maybe they can eat all the shrubs at the new school!

Okie, I don't know if the plan includes paving Tillman, there is a map from 2003 introducing the plan, http://www.fayettecountyga.gov/public_works/pdf/PlanSummaryMap.pdf
You should know that there was an article in the paper this week reporting that in 5 years there will be a surplus of 85 elementary school classrooms...Do we need another school in our area? I know that the neighbors on the Sandy Creek side of Hood Rd. rallied to keep it a dead end a few years ago. Food for thought.
