Mosul

Yesterday we turned over the responsibility for clearing out Mosul, Iraq (again) to the Iraqis.
Today, we lost five of our soldiers--the most in some time.
Is that a message or what?
How many Iraqi soldiers got killed? How many went home for lunch and never returned?
General Petraeus is figuring on getting out while the getting is still good---going to NATO (our big helpers in Afghanistan).
I'm sure glad General Eisenhower didn't leave his command just as we were getting ready to win in Europe! This has got to be a game with the Pentagon. That way no one is responsible!
Why don't he stay like MacArthur did in Japan and make it work before he leaves?
Because it is not going to work, that's why! Not with such a pitifully small crew of men.

Many of my conservative friends may have forgotten what first brought me to these boards. It was utter frustration in our abandonment of focus on Al Qaeda, OBL, and Afghanistan. This from the AP wire today:

"By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer Tue Jan 29, 6:42 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Afghanistan risks sliding into a failed state and becoming the "forgotten war" because of deteriorating international support and a growing violent insurgency, according to an independent study. The assessment, co-chaired by retired Marine Corps Gen. James Jones and former U.N. Ambassador Thomas Pickering, serves as a warning to the Bush administration at a time military and congressional officials are debating how best to juggle stretched warfighting resources."

When will we resume the real fight against terrorism?

Did you miss the comments about an additional 3,200 marines deploying?

Did you miss the part about forces in Iraq not being replaced. Those
"stretched warfighting resources" will be less stressed as we draw down.

Nice to see you on here again. You are much smarter than me, avoiding those dogmatic threads populated by minds that will never change and laws that won't be revoked.
I did not miss the 3200 Marines going to Afghanistan. I did miss the Army boots on the ground and Air Force wings in the air that have yet to be sent. I also missed the request for citizens to contribute to this war in any significant way. I missed a commitment to capture and kill Osama Bin Laden. And, tragically, I saw that Pakistan has rejected our offers to help them gain stability, thereby securing their nuclear arsenal. We have missed so many opportunities, it is tragic. One thing I do know, I'll be very comfortable with a PResident Obama, McCain, or Clinton. I know that the status quo has only 355 days to go.

Semper Fi, Hooah, and Huzzaa!

One would have to be a complete fool to assume that Iraq can defend itself in that area alone!
No airplanes, no artillery, no factories to make spare parts and army supplies.
Unless, unless, unless that is the plan anyway!
