Bullying cited as reason for bomb placement

An explosive device placed in a mailbox in south Peachtree City injured a postal worker Saturday, police said.

The postal employee was treated for a minor chemical burn and an inhalation injury, police said. The incident came a day after a potential explosive device was found on the porch of the same residence: 102 Linden Lane in the Foreston Place subdivision, police said.

Clayton County's Explosive Ordinance Disposal team detonated the mailbox bomb successfully with no further injuries being reported, police said.

Two juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were arrested in connection with the incident, police said. Both were charged with manufacturing an explosive device, and they were released back to their parents with conditions that must be met, officials said.

The first device was thrown on the porch of the residence "to scare a 17-year-old who resides there and to retaliate against him," police said.

"I just think they really weren't thinking about the consequences of their actions," said Maj. Mike DuPree of the Peachtree City Police Department.

The juveniles, both students at Starr's Mill High School, accused the intended victim of bullying and told police that was the reason for planting the devices. That story has not yet been confirmed, DuPree said.

The explosive devices were made from common items found around the home, police said.

It's very unfortunate and scary this happened it could have happened in a school locker. The USPS worker could have lost his vision or even died. The DA should try the teens as adults for attempted murder, and terroristic activity. This isn't teens just playing around, this is serious. This time around you bloggers don't have the option to start blaming Clayton County as if Fayette County and PTC kids are exempt. Also don't always rush to judge the parents we were all teens and we all had our own free will to do what we wanted, some just choose the correct path and some choose the rebellious and destructive path. We can't prevent teens from doing this kind of thing.

When I was in HS in the early 90's I got to school by walking (imagine that) walked to the local rec. center, got a job, played sports and didn't have time for this type of criminal activity. But I could have decided to do something like this and reap the consequences because of my lack of reasoning, peer pressure, or being in the moment and not thinking of an actual outcome, and that would have nothing to do with my parents that is my free will. When we try to blame the parents we then let these young adults hide behind their parents instead of taking their own responsibility for their actions and outcomes.

You said: "...we were all teens..." "We can't prevent teens from doing this kind of thing." "I could have decided to do something like this and reap the consequences..."

So why should they be charged as adults?

Just because I say the word "teen" doesn't mean that they shouldn't be tried as adults. Just because we can't prevent teens from doing this kind of thing doesn't mean that they shouldn't be tried as adults. The quote wasn't "We were all teens" it was "We were all teens and we all had our own free will to do what we wanted, some just choose the correct path and some choose the rebellious and destructive path. We can't prevent teens from doing this kind of thing."

If they do choose the destructive path (with a bully story or not) I feel that they should be tried as adults.

I'm sure I can argue that cheating on tests, skipping school, driving too fast, or shoplifting candy are all "choosing destructive paths." I guess they should be fraudsters, anarchists, potential murderers, and thieves by your line of thinking. Or is it some pent up aggression you are taking out on these boys for having been bullied yourself in school?
I would argue that your line of thinking is itself a destructive path.

I fail to see where anyone tried to blame Clayton County for anything on this issue.

We can't blame Global Warming either, FYI. Smiling

Thank you to the great people with PCPD and the Clayton County Bomb squad for taking care of this and preventing any major injuries. Unfortunately, I'm not holding my breath that our DA will do as good a job in prosecuting these lowlifes.

Apparently two 'bombs' were left at the same time, one on the stoop and one in the mailbox.

One was found Friday night and the other by the mailman on Saturday morning.

I was told they are students at Starr's Mill High School in Fayetteville.

Yes according to my neighbors they are Starr's Mill's "brightest".

I think they found the first one Friday, because of the police cars there.

Gee, what a surprise the wonderful kids in PTC strike again. Huh....I bet these gems have some great parents too.

These worthless birthcontrol failures had better get the maximum penalty.

Do something right for a change while you still have a job!!

Note to the worthless scum parents: I wish we could flog you in public!! Don't worry the neighborhood rumor mills will tell us who you scumballs are....

Geez, man...why are you coming down so hard on the parents?? I doo't see anything in the news report to indicate they knew what was going on.

Perhaps, if the parents knew what their "angels" were up to it wouldn't have occurred ...but, that would be a violation of the kids rights to actually, ask them where they are going and with whom.

Submitted by skyspy on Mon, 01/28/2008 - 5:23pm.

That's the point these knuckleheads have no idea what their birthcontrol failures are "up to" any day of the week. THATS THE PROBLEM!!!

Why anybody chooses to live in PTC and surround their good kids with the average kid here is beyond me.

Submitted by PTCBernie on Tue, 01/29/2008 - 10:52am.

There's more going on here than just two "birth control failures" as skyspy so eloquently puts it. Let the parents deal with it. You don't know the whole story.

Submitted by skyspy on Tue, 01/29/2008 - 11:40am.

If that story is true I would love to see what the school and police are going to do about it.

All the way around the taxpayers lose. Our tax dollars and cops were used and abused because people either can't or won't control their kids.

I'm not going to apologize for this one. If the parents are offended good. I'm offended everytime I see kids commit a crime.

I wasn't going to be the one to say it, but I agree with you. Bernie, don't know if your details are the same ones I have . . .but there is definitely more than meets the eye at first glance going on here.
