Tyrone's Semi-Secret MeetingAt last Thursday nights Town Council meeting silence about an upcoming called council meeting the very next Thursday was the order of the night. Sometime after the Council meeting a small notice was place on the bulletin board at Town Hall notifying the public of a called council meeting. When it was posted no one knows since Monday was a holiday for the Town staff; (but Mayor Rehwaldt was at Town Hall on Monday, could he be the poster of the notice?). It is simply amazing the lengths this group will go to avoid citizen input. The charter is the Town’s constitution and the citizen should have the right to review any changes and have their say. Unfortunately, it appears that this group is planning on railroading their ideas through in a special called meeting regardless of the lack of citizen input. What are these charter changes that are so critical that they can not be done at a regular scheduled council meeting? Why did the council not announce that they were planning on holding this meeting at the regular council meeting and explain why? When a group gets into power and starts changing the constitution it is normally for their benefit and not for the citizens; (maybe Don is proposing to change the charter to make himself Mayor for life? No one knows). Again, this group ran on open government and accountability, obviously just election rhetoric. Shaquita's blog | login to post comments |
