Inflation and recession and depression

These things mentioned in the title above can not be defined anymore, accurately, due to withheld information and lies by this administration!
It has now gotten so bad that they can not hide it any longer.
Anyone who buys food, gasoline, services, local taxes, auto repair, home repair, health service, medicine, or most necessities, know that we have had rampant inflation lately.
All the highly variable things are left out of the formula. Even the war costs!
As to recession, a downturn in the economy for two quarters, we obviously have one but it also is covered up by calling imports and jobs that pay half as much as improvements!
I suppose we will know when we have a depression! Another Roosevelt will be elected to straighten it out.
"Dribble down" has not worked "again."

But I would contend that a leader such as Roosevelt is nowhere to be seen. With the exception of one that I can think of, neither party has a concrete plan or answer to the impending economic disaster that is now iminent if we continue to ignore the problem. I count myself as one of the many that see the future for my children as bleak, but my answer is not one that conforms to either party line.

The Democrats and Republicans have both had an equal hand in the mess we now face and their laughable attempts to correct the problem through further engineering is only adding to the burden that will be placed upon my children and future grandchildren. Taxes will increase to ridiculous proportions as those in power choose what is best for me as it seems they consider themselves far more qualified to make that decision.

I am hoping for a leader who will cncourage personal responsibility and autonomy because I have faith in the strength, spirit and generosity of the individual. Our current leaders pander to the weaknesses of the people to remain powerful.

Well, you do seem to recognize that our country has been messed up lately.
However, the old "dodge" of blaming both sides no longer flies!
Bush and his cronies are totally to blame for this one. They concentrated on oil and business and let everything else go to hell!
Then they thought war would cover everything up.
No saviour is coming out of the dark, or light, to save us, I'm afraid.
We will have to do it ourself by just who we elect to every office. Forget the party, just vote for someone who can and will perform properly.

That's a great statement. Sadly it's true.

I used to feel entirely justified in blaming the Democrats until the Republicans proved that they were both incapable of leading in a majority rule scenario and that they also lacked the integrity of the convictions that they always ran on.

I am hoping for a leader who will cncourage personal responsibility and autonomy because I have faith in the strength, spirit and generosity of the individual.

Sadly, we will not even come close to finding this person among the pack of mutts that have been paraded before us in this election cycle.

for the average American, as my generation has witnessed, has seen more and more double talk from both sides of the aisle in Congress. When elected, there total focus from then on is to be reelected as their utmost priority.
Currently, nothing gets passed in Congress without literally thousands of pork projects that do little or nothing except to purchase their seats of power. This will not change in the near future unless the "average" American decries that they've had it with the status quo.
It is my humble opinion that we as a country are rapidly heading down the road to having a "ruling" class (Some can argue that we are there now). I would prefer someone outside the political arena who like Michelle Malkin wrote of this week-someone who is not afraid to tell someone to "suck it up."
Being responsible for one's actions can go a long way.

I believe that you are more on the target than many may want to believe. Many authorities predict that our form of government is overdue to reach its demise. It is already corrupted to the point that it is unrecognizable from its original concept. Everything that our forefathers created and our grandparents fought to preserve is being sacrificed so that select groups have preferential treatment and politicians remain in power (I won't go into my generational opinions on the matter). The torch has been passed and we are being failed miserably. The answer ultimately lies in personal accountability and the courage to band together to protect our personal rights.

By the way, it is Ms. and I am a lowly secretary with a self employed husband. But make no mistake, I will scrap with the best of them!!

Recommend one, six-year term for all (House, Senate, & President) with rotating elections every 2 years (with 1/3 of the House and Senate up each time, etc.). No re-elections. No more career politicians (unless you are good enough to get elected to one term in the House, one in the Senate, and one as President/VP). State elections/offices notwithstanding. Then, in most cases, you'd have only six years to make a difference. Believe this would put much more of a sense of urgency back into our elected officials. Our legislature needs a periodic influx of new fresh blood more often than it gets it right now.
Perhaps this would also reduce some of the partisan bickering we're all tired of, and force these folks to work together for the common good for a change.

From the other side of the tracks

I agree,

We need fresh blood willing to work together to serve us not themselves.

Every election its the same old thing, we get our hopes up and are left disappointed in the end.

I hope someone will come along.

Some fourteen years ago, after Congress made a "contract with America" under the direction of a fellow Georgian there was serious deliberation within Congress to do exactly that. With the fall from grace of Gingrich, Republicans had no one to lead them (as if Newt did), the whole debate faltered.
Six years of public service, irregardless of party affiliation, would insure we are represented by individuals who are there to SERVE and not for personal gain.
George Washington declined a third term to allow a change in government, can we not follow his example?

I meant to ask Malkin how she got into this country. Do you know?
Did she pay her way through college as she says everyone else should do?

Let's see now, did she swim over, or maybe was transported in a secondhand schoolbus, whatever.
I believe she is a US citizen. Perhaps you might enlighten me as to Ms Malkin's birthright?
The message was to accept personal responsibility. Can you handle it?

She is Filipino and her parents weren't yet citizens when she was born.
She appears Asian, but maybe parents were.
She paid no college tuition---too smart.
Accepting responsibility has nothing to do with hypocrisy!

Was born in Philadelphia back in 1970. I'm pretty sure it was already in the US by then.

Her parents were not citizens---Asians from Philippines with a card.
Currently a bitter hypocrite--making a lot of money. Maybe very good buddies of Coulter.

What's the big deal? It's an interesting read.
Surely, you do not object to someone believing in taking personal responsibility.
Jeff, thank you for the birth info.
