William Talley in snow William Talley, 10, scopes out the snow in Fayetteville Wednesday afternoon.

Sure enough, the forecast was true, as snow and sleet hit Fayette County by mid-afternoon.

NWS has issued a winter weather advisory that stretches from 4 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Thursday that a mixture of snow and sleet is expected during that time frame.

It is not anticipated there will be much accumulation, however, as temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s overnight.

There could be some freezing of bridges and overpasses, but that is likely to last only until about sunrise, a NWS forecaster said. The conditions are not expected to affect traffic for the morning commute, though.

This is a great day for meteorologists.

Us EAS majors at Tech are ecstatic as we watch the snow fall but it's not sticking.

Hopefully It'll continue for a while and start sticking.

That kind of reminds me of my first real winter weather event here in January 1988. Living in the Los Angeles area most of my life, snow was just a word. Well needless to say, when the sleet/snow hit that January I was at the store buying stuff. I have since then seen the error of my ways.

OK, now here's what we downtown workers need now - an official notice that anyone working above I-285 needs to head home now to avoid bad weather, traffic, store-jams, etc. LOL!
