More nonsense with logins

gratefuldoc's picture

Just got logged off from the Citizen online only to find out that my password had somehow been changed. Sure wish the Citizen would rectify this situation...maybe linking a request for new login with an email address attached.

Without the email address that is linked to "thecitizen.com" username and password, the password cannot be changed. The system requires that user ID and linked email address match before a password change is authorized.

Not a good idea to post your email address on the board for just this reason.

No such thing as a "false request" unless the appropriate data is provided.

Have you tried that false request yet?

Did you try what you are talking about before posting? Obviously not, or you'd realize it doesn't work as you think. All you have to do is enter a username, not enter both a username AND an email address. Just like about 20 posts in the last few days have stated.

I suggest you type in you name and leave the email part blank hit the send and see what happens. You don't have to use an email address, just be prepared to ask for a new one for real afterward.

Right now, it is possible to just type in any person's screen name and request a new Password. When this is done without that person's knowledge, it screws things up. Recommend the Citizen change their protocol to require more than just the screen name be inputted. Recommend that BOTH the screen name and current email address be inputted before a new password is sent. For added security, Citizen could also require that the current password be inputted before a new one is issued. Either of these solutions would make it more difficult for miscreants to tamper with bloggers screen names and passwords.

From the other side of the tracks

The other day you asked if I had been hacked, I said no- I had not- my husband works with computers- smart guy.

Is this what some have been complaining about that I have read about with other people,

You must have tried to do it to me, why would you ask, it's not like you like this personality of mine?

btw- read books, etc.- get a life.

Your own computer has nothing at all to do with the login situation.
Your password gets changed when anyone comes here and requests a new password. All they do is put your username in, then the software that runs this site changes your password and sends you an email telling you what it is.

See you answered my question through your other personalities.

They know what is happening (someone sends in a false request) but they don't want to expend what it takes to fix it!
