My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. This is a tragedy. No parent should ever feel the pain that her parents are experiencing right now. I hope it is a small comfort for them to know that their daughter truly touched more lives than they'll ever know. May she rest in peace.

Yes, her body has been discovered in the Dawson Forest wildlife area.
This is so heartbreaking. Given the apparent randomness of this act, she is my daughter or your sister as they equally would have fallen prey had they happened upon this Evil as she did.

I was hoping we would start off the new year right with a miracle. This is so sad. The lady who started this blog is friends with the family, ask her to forward condolences.

I do agree, I try and teach my son to be on alert and careful, I pray he does it- most of the time he is under my supervision- I do let him go to the movies with his girlfriend then I pick them up- it is not safe but I do try to talk to him.

My heart breaks for her family. I do pray comfort for them, if you have lost someone you love deeply it hits home.

I saw an interview with Meredith's godmother and roommate on the Today show this morning. The lady actually concluded the interview with a message from Meredith's parents: whatever the news turns out to be, the love and support from the community and respect from the media show that there is more good than evil in the world. Amazing.
Sounds like a great family, and she seems like a neat young lady who could easily be among my kids' circle of friends.

My 29-year-old son often enjoys solo hiking in the Cohutta Wilderness area. I'm not sure that it is a good idea, male or female.

Does anyone know how the suspect was identified so soon? What led someone to note his license plate at the trails? Did he seem suspicious?

I have concern for this woman's family. I have come to the conclusion that we need to provide more help in two areas, not by the government, but by us:
Never hike alone, even in an urban situation, especially females.

People like the bum involved should be committed and given many
pills long before they go over the deep end to evil. This will cost
us money locally, but we should do it. These people are created,
just as our blown up soldiers may some day if we don't provide.

I only implied that we are not taking care of our veterans who have been exposed to huge blasts, and we should be. You talk like I'm saying they will be ill on their own! No one anymore thinks like you about this war---that it is fine and was correct to do. It obviously was not.

Soldiers caught in close proximity to roadside bombs, etc., are now being discovered to have swollen and damaged brains, which as time goes by causes havoc with the soldier---many are killing themselves.
They don't even know the extent yet of the long term problems.
Remember agent orange in Nam? Covered up for a long time.
Now what comparison was made?
You have simply got to realize that we have no right to continue to send kids into this horror and certainly not treat them later.

This is so very sad, I can not imagine what they have been going through. I have been checking the news every few minutes, hoping for a positive outcome, however, last I read on news sites, the reports are not looking good. As far as the suspect arrested, what a piece of work he is. I will never understand people like this. He will have his day, and I believe "what goes around, comes around".
It's weird, when news like this happens, we seem to be drawn to it. This is so close to home, and having daughters myself, I guess I tend to worry for all girls. My heart goes out to her Family, and will pray for all of them. My girls will get extra hugs & kisses from me tonight......
