About 2,200 homes in east Fayette County and part of south Clayton County lost power about 4:30 Thursday morning when a line on Inman Road had problems due to the cold weather, according to a spokesman for Coweta-Fayette EMC.

Unfortunately the outage happened on one of the coldest nights of the year, as temperatures dipped into the teens.

The company sent seven crews to find the problem when it was initially reported, and 650 homes had their power back on by 7 a.m. with the remainder powered back up by 9 a.m., said spokesman Mary Ann Bell.

The outage affected homes in the area of south Jeff Davis Drive, Calloway Road and Inman Road in addition to homes in Clayton County’s Rivers Edge subdivision, Bell said.

The cold weather caused one of the connections on the line to be pulled out, and the repair took longer than usual because it involved two circuits, Bell explained.

Several individual homeowners on Georgia Power in Peachtree City reported outages to The Citizen but Georgia Power officials said no outages were reported by customers in Fayette.

My husband and I live in Peachtree City in Fayette County and we actually lost power at 12:30AM, not 4:30.
