By: The Citizen
Seen in Fayetteville this week: Expensive new truck with fancy wheels and Clayton County tags dropping off five Hispanic women at the Fayette County Health Clinic. Sure, c’mon down, we’ll subsidize your healthcare. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To the “professional” who is always sickened by the articles written by Bishop David Epps: You choose to read the articles; no one forces you to do so. If you don’t like his articles, don’t read them. It’s as simple as that. And maybe you should think about speaking out against an issue that really matters; for example, poverty, the homeless, education.... As one professional to another, I’m sure you get the idea. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Are women insane? Frankly, I’ve never met a man or a woman in 64 years that wasn’t a little bit crazy in one form or another. Inasmuch as a hive of angry hornets is already stirred up, I might as well whack the buzzing nest with a baseball bat. If women are insane, men are to blame because they are cheap and always looking for a deal. It all started when Adam complained to God because he didn’t have any help in the Garden of Eden. When Adam asked God for a decent helpmate, God replied, “Adam, that will cost you an arm and a leg.” Adam scratched his head for a moment while considering the offer. Finally Adam replied, “What can I get for a rib?” Maybe all women are not insane, but the ones I have known, especially my ex-wife, most definitely needed professional help. If they were not taking some kind of prescription, mood-altering drug, they should have been. Anger management, OCD, depression and bipolar are common terms. Hasn’t PMS been medically classified as a form of insanity? How about menopause? When it is all said and done, women are like a football. It is nearly impossible to predict which way they will bounce. They are fun to embrace and you can’t score a touchdown without holding one in your arms. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This is addressed to the individual who was concerned about an “illegal” influx of Clayton County students into the Fayette County School System. Please get your facts straight about the status of Clayton schools. Previously, the schools were put on probation for two years by SACS. Accreditation was not lost. Presently, another investigation is pending. Both of these incidents were caused by an extremely ineffectual and micromanaging school board, and NOT caused by the teachers. Actually, most Clayton teachers could give your teachers a run for the money. Yes, Clayton County schools have serious issues: Lousy school board, administrators who have become dictators, thanks to the previous superintendent, undisciplined students, parents who don’t consider education a priority, and some questionable programs brought in by the previous superintendent. And who has to try to deal with all this baggage, and does so in an admirable way? Yep, the teachers. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Amazing. The Lakeside/Lakemont community cannot be satisfied. They were already redistricted to Whitewater High School which is TWICE as far as Fayette County High School. Now they are resisting redistricting of the elementary schools. My advice to those residents is to let the school board make districting decisions based on school populations and a distance radius around the school. The reason the districts don’t make common sense is that the school board has let themselves be pressured by petitions from developments like Lakeside and Lakemont. What applies to some should apply to all. It’s only fair. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - High schoolers usually complain that living in Peachtree city is boring and that that they can’t wait to leave. I can understand. What I don’t understand is why turn boredom into vandalism and meanness. Right before Christmas, some homes in the Starr’s Mill district were T-peed, Christmas decorations moved and or broken, etc. Do not turn your boredom into destruction. Doing this affects the whole neighborhood. Not only they are risking getting caught, but they are trespassing on private properties. This has been happening at all hours of the night even after curfews. Parents, make sure you know where your teens are, and the police department will have to patrol the subdivisions more, not just the parkway. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Does this mean Dan Tennant is reviving his failed political career? Sucking up to a candidate after winning the election! Same ol’ Dan! Maybe he knows a bookie that will take bets after the game. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - On Dec. 22, the front page of the Tyrone Citizen printed the story, “Walker Bros. is victorious in lawsuit.” The Fairburn City Council had denied Walker a business permit. Brad Sears, also Tyrone’s town attorney, represented Fairburn, arguing that Walker did not follow administrative remedies. That’s the same defense he’s using in the case of Shelley vs. Tyrone, except that Tyrone’s Council has denied numerous licenses, when they don’t even have a business license law. Tyrone has fraudulently used an occupational tax as a business license. The Citizen Newspaper stated that the case was over before it started. The judge ruled that Fairburn’s actions were a “gross abuse of discretion,” again the same complaint in the Tyrone lawsuit. The judge also noted that Fairburn’s Planning Commission presented no studies or facts for the council to consider. Also, the same problem Tyrone has when they passed Ordinance No. 454. The judge’s ruling now leaves open a damage claim for Walker of inverse condemnation, a 5th Amendment taking of land uses without just compensation. The courts have ruled that the measure of damages extends from the date of taking to the date the decision is ruled void. In Walker’s case it is four months. In Tyrone’s case it’s four years. Tyrone’s damages can be computed to over $300,000 to date and increasing every day at the rate of over $6,000 per month until Tyrone’s Council repeals Ordinance 454; not for just the current lawsuit but for each and every business or property owner denied their land uses. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To the people who boycott stores simply because they wish people a “Happy Holidays,” you are showing your ignorant view of our society. Do you even recognize that this is also a time of celebration other than Christmas? Hanukkah comes to mind particularly, as does Kwanzaa. There actually are people living in the U.S. who aren’t Christian. These people also shop at our stores, eat at our restaurants, and walk around in public. Your self-righteous arrogance simply cuts them out of the picture. Funny, did you even consider the origin of the Christmas season? I suggest you research it. According to all research, Christ wasn’t born in December. In fact the common belief is that Christmas was moved to Dec. 25 due to a pagan celebration. But more importantly, your absolute disregard for others shows one thing about you: You are not a true Christian. Christians respect others and accept all. You, obviously, don’t. How Christian of you. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It’s not a matter of political correctness when people wish you “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.” It’s just them acknowledging that there are people on this planet who might not celebrate your holiday. Oh, please mention in Free Speech the names of the stores that you are going to boycott; I’ll patronize them. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I will be 63 years old in a few months and I can tell you that the phrase “Happy Holidays” was around long before people with fragile egos made up the term “politically correct” to address anything they didn’t like. “Happy Holidays” was used to convey warm greetings for the period covering both Christmas and New Year’s. If Hanukkah also fell in that particular time frame, then that was good also. Of course, since this happened in that bastion of liberalism known here as The North, then I guess some people will say “political correctness” was occurring long before it because a political buzzword. I would suggest those offended people emulate me: If anyone wishes me ANY kind of warm greeting, I am happy and thankful. I’m not about to boycott someone just because they didn’t tell me EXACTLY the words I wanted to hear. A warm greeting is a warm greeting, even to grumpy people. login to post comments |
