A south Fayette man remained hospitalized Saturday after he suffered significant burns on his body while cooking at his home on Old Greenville Road, according to family members.

Robert Betsill was injured Dec. 11 and flown to the burn unit at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, said Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Betsill received third-degree burns and is currently in an induced coma to help him recover from the injuries, said his nephew Kenny Betsill.

Kenny Betsill said the medic crews responded to the scene quickly and were very proficient in their care of his uncle.

I understand that the coma is induced, meaning that he feels nothing until he can heal some.
Without the coma he might have problems with shock.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Take comfort in knowing that your uncle is in one of the best hospitals for treating burns. The fact that he was lifeflighted there means he got good care very quickly. I wish you the best for this new year, may you find strength, comfort, and good health.

Take care of yourself, it is very hard on your own health when you are helping someone in the hospital.
