Hey bpr and Merry Christmas! Smiling Umm...did you watch this video? This is a sad and moving video for remembering 9/11. Let me assure you it's nothing more sinister. Mixer is in Sean Hannity's words a "Great American" and honorably served his country, so you shouldn't misjudge him. He's in Ohio now IIRC, but he used to be much more active. Look for some of his past posts, and you'll see he's a good conservative guy. Eye-wink

May I ask you to do me a favor- please explain to Mixer that I am sorry- when I went to the link it said porno. Now, what would you think? I feel really bad that I mistaken him- I don't ever want to offend anyone. Could you let him know a little about me what you saw when I met you. I thought all you guys are great along with Mr.Bpr.

I do admire Sean Hannity- so after that being said and after meeting you, I trust your judgement. So, please let him know- this really bothers me. But, again I can't go to the site. Please let me know.
Thanks!

Merry Christmas

Yes, my husband loves all kinds of Christmas Music and this is one of them, plus he loves the movie. I love It's A Wonderful Life, plus last night we watched The Grinch That Stole Christmas with Jim Carey, he is a hoot. Piano play-no - what do you think.

In Charlotte N.C. my husband worked at a radio station there back in the 80's and he was the first to play all Christmas Music after Thanksgiving. I was proud of him, hey he even made the newspaper.Ha.

Yes, we do love the classic ones also. I am just a music lover period.
Except sorry I don't like Country or Blue Grass.

Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Muddle- I know this is a special one for you. One that you are thankful to God for. He gave you a gift of having her longer. I also adore my husband and I know you love her dearly.

I understand the attitude about country music. Contemporary country music, anyway. I love the old Hank Williams stuff and actually play guitar and do a not bad Hank impersonation. ("I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" etc.) And no Willie Nelson either? (My mom's most requested tune when I've got the guitar out: "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.")

But do you realize how innovative bluegrass musicians must be? I know that it is often thought of as "hillbilly" music, but it is actually quite sophisticated, with roots in Celtic music and other older sources.

I was first reintroduced to bluegrass through a band that Garrison Keillor used to feature on A Prairie Home Companion: Stoney Lonesome. Doc Watson, Flatt&Scruggs....classic stuff!

Hi muddle....hope you and Mrs. Muddle are enjoying your Holiday. Do you know of any Bluegrass that any of the Allman's or any of the band were involved with? There is Highway Call by Richard Betts (Dickey) but not really bg. Have you heard any Old and in the Way......outstanding stuff btw. Or any Grisman/Garcia stuff....equally outstanding. Just curious. A Happy and Healthy to you and the Mrs.

Here you go!

Thrill is Gone

I LOVE the Grisman/Garcia sets. Remember "Shady Grove"?

I'm not aware of any real bluegrass roots associated with the Allman Brothers Band. Dicky Betts would have been the closest, having come from a background with a lot of country and folk. Even there, though, I think first of people like Jimmy Rogers and Woody Guthrie rather than, say, Bill Monroe.

Garcia's bluegrass interests really enriched all of the other stuff he did.

By the way, my son went to the very last Dead show that Jerry played: Soldiers Field, CHicago in '95. I happened to br browsing the Signals catalog, and spotted Grateful Dead sweatshirts featuring that show, so I ordered it for him as a gift. I think he's really going to like it.

Funny! I was just playing that last night (on a Taylor acoustic). I found good tab for it on the internet quite some time ago. I've forgotten a lot of the material further into the song, but can get it started fairly well.

Nice gift! I have a Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop that I would never part with. It's an awesome guitar.

West Texas Waltz

Very talented fellow. I have his CD with Ashokan Farewell. Can't think of the name of his group, offhand. When Ken Burns used it on The Civil War, I actually thought that is was a period tune from the 19th century. Haunting and beautiful. Burns plays that in the background as Sullivan Ballou's letter to his wife, Sarah, is read.

West texas Waltz is a nice tune. What's all the talk about his teaming up with Galway? JAMES Galway, the flautist?

Do you know of Peter Ostrushko's work (used to be on Prairie Home Companion)?

very funny! I have a Taylor 314CE acoustic, but I usually plug it into my amp. Classical gas was the 2nd song I learned to play (Don't Think Twice was the 1st) but my guitar teacher moved away and never taught me the last portions to the song - if you ever find that guitar tab, please send me a link... it would be nice to know the entire song.

For nearly ten years I have coveted a jacket that Taylor sells on their website. It's an "alumni jacket": leather sleeves with wool body, but with a large "Taylor Guitars" logo on the back (in chenille) instead of a college or university. Really cool.

My incredible wife sneaked and ordered it for me this year.

I've never seen anyone anywhere with one of these. So.... If you spot some bearded guy wearing a Taylor Guitar alumni jacket just walk up and say, "Hi, Muddle." It's a pretty safe bet.

I've wanted a 314CE for the onboard amp, and would likely have picked one up had Fayette Music Merchants not gone out of business.

I have a W14c (Claro walnut back and sides w/ cedar top) that I bought new in '98, so it's about to have its 10th birthday! I love this guitar. I also have the 25th Anniversary Taylor dreadnought (which, according to the label inside, was built on the day of my wife's and my 25th anniversary!), which is in flawless condition and I rarely take out to play. Also a Taylor 410 that I bought used (at FMM), which is the one that I usually take along with me and don't worry so much about. (Um, and then there's the Baby Taylor and a few non-Taylor acoustics....)

Here's the tab I had in mind. It took a while to find the right one, because I could not remember the name of the person who arranged it. I finally recognized John Kean's name when I saw it.

I've seen other tabs that he has done--also good.

Well, I fantasize about getting a gig in a pub or restaurant or coffee shop like some of our favorite places in Savannah. I'll probably never do it, though I flatter myself to think that I'm finally ready for some such thing. I would love to find someone who is roughly where I am in ability, at roughly the same age, and with the same musical interests and then put something together for such venues. (A good friend has been doing the coffee shop in Senoia. Were I not so shy, I would sit in with him.)

I grew up in the mountains of N.C. and to them this is the only music, bluegrass and country- I think I rebelled and deceided on rock- well not the hard rock, well there was a song or two I liked, maybe a song from a hard rock group.

Not my parents love the country and bluegrass.

It must have been living where I did hearing it all my life.
Strange huh?

Christmas music- Thank you - you sure do like guitars- guess what my son has gotten one for the last two Christmas and guess what we upgraded to another one this year. My son loves music, and is really good at it like his Dad.

I do indeed love the guitar.

Both of my sons play and are light years ahead of me. But I get by. My only "audiences" tend to be accidental, such as other campers in the campground who will sometimes pull up a chair by the fire to listen. I play several styles, including a Chet Atkins fingerpicking style (don't be too impressed here), "Travis" picking of the sort featured in the singer/songwriter stuff of the 70s, blues, slide (w/ dobro) some lead, and, of course, rythm.

Love to play Beatles, Clapton (unplugged), James Taylor, Fogelberg (sigh), Allmans, Dead, Neil Young, etc., etc.

Arthritis seriously gets in the way, though.

Here's a PHENOMENAL guitar talent

But as I watched the video, remembering everything about that morning, including how angry we all felt as the days passed, I am still enraged that our administration dropped the ball in Afghanistan, to go uncover imaginary WMD's in Iraq.

I bought myself a calendar last week entitled "The Bush Days Countdown" to when he is out of office - and hopefully, out of our lives, forever. Can you imagine what the world MAY have been like, if Gore had been voted in?! I doubt seriously, Gore would have used 9/11 to mistakenly invade Iraq.

To all of the self appointed "Morality Censors", STOP asking Cal and Co. to remove, ban and/or block user input.

If you want to live in a world of cute little kittens that's just fine but please STOP asking the rest of us to stay in kindergarten with you.

How about Cal banning all the children that never grew up, the ones that think issues that are thoughtfully engaging are inappropriate for their grandchildren to read?

God forbid someone used a picture of kitty road-pizza as an avatar.

If you have a problem with three and five year olds looking over you shoulder while your on the computer, then quit coming to WEB sites that are for adults or lock the door.

What will you do if a porn site pop-up comes up? That very thing happened to a substitute teacher once, remember?

If you find the posters or discussions on here to be distasteful, please go to Romper Room and leave everybody else alone. Think of it like a TV and change the channel. Nobody is forcing you or your grandchildren to be here.

I'm not being nasty, I'm tired of people attempting to impose their version of morality on everyone else.

Had you gone to the link, "remember" would have gone to an MSNBC news article that showed the story about the teachers convection being overturned.

The other link, "Romper Room" would have really have taken you to the real "Romper Room". Just place you cursor over the link and read the status at the bottom of your screen. I will never redirect anyone to something that is not openly allowed on this site or without warning of the possibly of offensive content.

I see you did your best to avoid the issue of censorship. Again I say, if the content posted by the users of this site offend you, change the channel but please quit attempting to imposing your version of morality on any and everybody.

If I perceived that I needed a lesson on morality, I'd either ask muddle for it or I'd go to church. (F.Y.I. muddle, I just started "The God Delusion")

I’ve made it into chap. 3 and it appears that I have a great deal of research to do.

Dawkins is fond of quoting a few that I’ve read and many that I’ve not.

Just for starters, why so much 'faith' in what Einstein/Hawkins have to say? I have a rather deep understanding of both of their works mathematically and theoretically speaking.

I tend to deal in the technical, 0’s and 1’s, theoretical and quantum world and find that I’m ill prepared for a lot of Dawkins examples. I guess I have my work cut out for myself.

On the face of it I seem to be having a difficult time accepting Dawkins word about who or more aptly what he quotes, primarily the context.

No doubt I’ll have to finish the book, research much and then reread it before I’ll be able to ask (hopefully) intelligent questions.

Philosophy is something I know of but little about.

Hope you and Mrs. Muddle have a great Christmas.

muddle's picture
Submitted by muddle on Tue, 12/25/2007 - 7:34am.

Isn't the purpose of his discussion of Einstein and Hawkins to demonstrate that these great scientific minds were/are not religious believers? It's rather an odd point to make, isn't it? "Let's wheel out whatever smart people who agree with our side." See? The smart guy says there's no god, so who are you to argue with him? He has an IQ of 200. Smiling

I think Dawkins himself is brilliant and a clever writer. But he is overreaching in a book of this nature. (His bit about presenting a parody of the ontological argument to a group of philosophers and theologians is a case in point. He relates that, when he finished, they objected to the parody by appeal to "modal logic." He says this as though it is the punchline to a joke. But I can well imagine their point. He simply had misunderstood the point of that original argument and had muddled (heh) some basic issues in the logic of necessity. I do not think that that argument succeeds--even in the hands of someone like Alvin Plantinga, a contemporary philosopher who has presented a sophisticated version of it. But it is one thing to understand the argument and offer a negative assessment. It is another thing to mock it without understanding it. In this respect, Dawkins is rather like Dollar.)

... self righteous idiot. I agree.

Perhaps your "computer savvy husband" can remove your "filter" so you can see that the link you keep crying about (which was not 'sent to you') that is in my posting is simply a video tribute to September 11, 2001. It is a great time to remember the families of the three-thousand dead civilians killed by the radical islamo-facists that you no doubt filter out of your thoughts and considerations.

Your filters do indeed help explain your political slant. By the way, try watching your child when they are online and not allowing them to use the computer in a private setting. Proxy servers will beat the "filter" your "computer savvy husband" has installed.

My favorite website.

Please don't insult my husband he is very good at his job. As I said before I can't even go to it.

You think I don't remember thoese families, you just don't know me, and no my filter does not explain my political slant.

If you have read on here, I am conservative, my favorite President is George W. Bush, it's okay to disagree - if you think I don't appreciate the people in the service- you don't know me for sure.
I love my country, the service people I can never repay for taking care of us.

As far as Proxy server which I don't know a thing about but my husband will, it will be his decesion. He's not a idiot.

Please don't call me a self-righteous idiot. I don't say things like that to people- and I already told you I am sorry- thanks to penguin and hutch which I hope by the way they will tell you that I am not a self righteous idiot.

As far as my husband he is great at what he does. Everyone has a opinion but it would be nice to find out about the person instead of hurting feelings. All is well on my side. Again, I am sorry. Hope you reply.

Here are two to add.

First, Sweet Baby James: James Taylor

But this has never failed to send chills up and down my spine. I taught at St. Olaf College in Northfield Minnesota for several years. Every year, for many, many years, all of the St. Olaf choirs have come together to offer their Christmas concert. (It airs on PBS this year Christmas Day--check it out).

The music throughout each show is wonderful. But the age-old tradition is for all of the choirs to come down from the stage and surround the audience around the walls of the auditorium. By candlelight they sing Beautiful Savior.

"Glory and honor,
Praise, adoration
Now and forever more
Be Thine."

Oh, Jeff's dad came and spoke in chapel once when I taught there. He was very well received.

Isn't thunder caused by oppositely charged clouds bumping?
If it were not, and I thought God did that for every thunder in the world, I would be scared to death!
Does he do each and every lightning strike also?
Maybe it was all programmed into the Hard drive at the beginning?

I don't know what the Grateful Dead and the name plate on the wall in "Inferno" have in common, but I think that, "I am, I am" is standard for "He."

Now you have done it- it was GREAT! Now I will have to go out and get James Taylor's cd- growing up in the late 70's I think he was my favorite then Elton John, Chicago- Doobie Brother, Michael McDonald I could go on forever.

Do you have one from Chicago or Michael McDonald- I should have got this for my husband for Christmas- He loves their Christmas cd.
I will just have to special order them and give them to him next year.
I do watch the PBS special- it is very nice.

I know you have a busy scheldue, but I was hoping to catch you on here sometime to tell you - Merry Christmas- to one of my friends.
Really, hope you can make the coffee meeting sometime, hey I don't really drink coffee and I went, I had hot chocolate with loads of whip cream and choc. chips, now that beats coffee anyday. Mocha coffe with peppermint also taste like hot chocolate. I am more of a hot tea, apple cider drinker.

Are you busy reading your book yet, I gave my husband one of his presents early- it's Steve Martin's Standing Up- I did it so he will hurry and read it so I can.

Merry Christmas Smiling
