For the second time in three months, the Shell convenience store on Palmetto Road was the site of a burlary. The latestc crimeoccurred Dec. 16 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Police were alerted by an alarm call, finding the store’s front door busted out, said Tyrone Police spokesperson Alicia Batts. The owner arrived and confirmed that two cash registers had been pried open and drawers were missing, she said. An undisclosed amount of cash was missing. The Shell station was also burglarized Sept. 16 when the store’s glass front doors were smashed in and lottery tickets were stolen. Burglary activity in Tyrone continued Dec. 18 when 18 year-old Joseph Chase Wilson was charged after he attempted a residential break-in, Batts said. A burglary in progress call came into the police department shortly after 9 a.m. Officers responded to a Handley Court residence where a neighbor identified an individual wearing a mask who had attempted to break in to another home. The person fled before entering the residence. Officers a short time later interviewed Wilson at his home on Handley Court acknowledged that he had attempted to enter his neighbor’s home, said Batts. Wilson told officers he had used a butter knife in an attempt to pry open the screen on a window, she said. In his written statement, Wilson said he was attempting to secure items in the house that were taken from his home, said Batts. An item valued at $2,500 was stolen from a residence under construction on Roundstone Rock in Lake Windsong sometime between Dec. 3-11, Batts said. The builder noticed Dec. 10 that the furnace located in the home’s basement was missing and notified police, she said. login to post comments |
