One person’s trash becomes local children’s Christmas treasureWed, 12/19/2007 - 10:59am

A few weeks ago Amy Adams’ 1-800-GOT-JUNK? crew picked up a truckload of brand new stuffed animals, porcelain dolls, Barbies, Beanie Babies and other toys from a homeowner who needed to get rid of them. Adams promised the homeowner she would do everything within her power to find a good home for the toys. After putting the word out to the community, Adams learned about St. Matthew-Parish’s Angel Tree Program. The program provides 50 children in need from the areas of Fayette, Coweta and South Fulton counties with toys to brighten their Christmas. On Thursday, Dec.13, Adams and crew members dropped off a toys for each sponsored child. Adams also learned about a local pregnant mother of three who recently lost her husband and is on bed rest carrying her fourth child. On Friday she delivered toys and baby items to that family. Items were also taken to the Blessings Thrift Store for Haven House in McDonough. Women in need are able to shop for items for their families for free at the thrift store and the money earned through sales is directed toward the emergency shelter and counseling for abused children. The remainder of the items were donated to the Leadership Club at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, which hosted a Christmas party for kids in need at Noah’s Ark in Locust Grove on Dec. 18. Each child received a stuffed toy in addition to the gifts the club is giving them. “It was such a blessing to have been able to help these kids at Christmas,” said Adams. “It just goes to show one person’s trash can be many people’s treasure.” login to post comments |
