Another diddy from the Steve Brown files...

the_assassin's picture

(Cue the Law and Order bum-bum)

Mayor Steve Brown was a camera hog.

Remember the young man who died trying to save a friend who was drowning when they were wakeboarding near City Hall in the heavy rainstorm. Brown found the cameras and had the audacity to point blame at the deceased instead of offering comfort to the youth's family.

From the story on 11Alive.com:

Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown called Clarke’s death a “tragedy,” saying it could have been easily avoided. He told 11Alive’s Denis O’Hayer that no one should have been out during the storm in the first place.

"You have something that's avoidable and someone dies, it's a tragic circumstance. This is one of these situations where, like I said, there are certain things you shouldn't be doing in severe weather," said Mayor Brown.

Insensitive. Especially from a man with children of his own.

We don't need a camera hog in the legislature. Sonny and company are already such easy prey for the media anyway.

Do we really want a lier (lawyer) who plays with developers, and who will stoop as low as he can?? I knew you people were snakes....but...wow.

Thanks for making my decision easy next Tues.

Everyone read the reporters retraction, he screwed up, but it figures a low-life lawyer and dpac would exploit it. Sorry we all read the retraction.

This blog speaks, no, screams volumes about the kind of people behind the lawyer.

Unlike Sturbaum-King, the Brown and Ramsey supporters/detractors of each rolled up their sleeves and started slugging it out in the mud immediately. The extremes from both camps lack anything resembling class, respect, or intelligent discussion.

Fortunately, the candidates themselves have pretty much stayed above it, but they aren't exactly yanking the chains on some of their barking dogs to get them to muzzle it.

I'm sure some will blame Ramsey's camp for starting it while others will point out that this type of sleazy political atmosphere was started By Steve Brown and his crowd years ago. Regardless of all that, someone has to rise above. When councilmember Plunkett and others were worrying about the pay of elected office discouraging people from running, they totally missed the obvious: the climate in PTC is so nasty and childish that people aren't thrilled about subjecting themselves, their families and even their jobs to a bunch of BS. It's not the money; it's the garbage that goes with the job that discourages people. It didn't used to be this way, either.

I have met this family and they did not deserve this from you. Does Mr. Ramsey approve of your type of support? you are not a nice person.

I've spoken with the family and you know what hurt them? Steve Brown criticizing their dead child.

Especially when it turns out he was trying to save another's life.

That's it from me on Brown for the rest of the campaign. I heard about the forum and Brown's shot at his "fellow" Republicans. They'll eat his lunch at the polls.

And FYI, none of my information has come from (or been directed by) the Ramsey campaign, any developers, Direct Pac people or whatever other imaginary "demons" the Brownies can cook up.

I'm just gonna cross my fingers and hope that no matter who wins they do their best to do right by Dan Lakly and the legacy he left as a politician of the people.

You have got to be one sick person to start digging up a local family's tragedy to try to win a political race! Can't they live in peace??

I believe God will deal with you about this!

Using the death of someone's teenage son as a disturbing device to disrupt an election campaign is about as appalling as I have ever seen.

I am certain Matt, Heidi and Kevin have far too much class to ask a supporter to engage in such a disappointing blog.

For the record, the reporting cited in the blog was launched after a piece in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution appeared which attributed comments to me that video accounts lacked. The AJC reporter, much to his credit, checked his notes and could not a single reference to the quotations he attributed to me; he asked the AJC to run a retraction on July 11, 2005 and they did. A copy of the retraction and a letter of my condolences were sent to the boy's family.

I thought the theft of over 350 of my campaign yard signs and the developer based political action committee filing false ethics charges against me to the State Ethics Commission (the commission found the charges not worthy of a full hearing and threw them out) in 2005 was bad, but what is attempted in this blog is much worse.

They'll do just about anything to try to discredit Steve Brown. Does anyone remember the bogus state ethics charges the DIRECT PAC filed against Brown in the last election?

These guys are nasty and they will do anything to win.

"These guys are nasty and they will do anything to win.

Is there a hidden meaning to the above?Smiling

Because if you do the assassination might be a suicide. I'm no authority or scholar, but generally you want to bring your A game with a blog post. After all, the surrounding blogging community (bloggosphere) sits up and takes notice when a new blog springs forth. We salivate wondering what knowledge and wit awaits us. If you expect a comment saying the mayor points to one's responsibility to think and act safely in storms, is going to show the mayor in a poor light, I beg to differ. In the flying world, we have the Air Force "Road To Wings" and Navy "Approach" magazine. These books are full of people who's lives ended up being examples of what not to do. We point their mistakes out not to cast them in a bad light, but to prevent others from making similar mistakes. how many kids might have tried to surf in rain run-off if nothing had been said? Assassin, don't place a guillatine over your own head in the attempt to decapitate another.

Insensitive? Why is that an insensitive comment? It's true. The young man's death was a horrible tragedy, but it could have been prevented.
